Losing Delta and New Opportunities

Oh please. The regionals shouldn’t exist. It should be all mainline flying. I’m 100% for mainline to bring back flying in house. More jobs will be created. No one except maybe lifers wants scope to be relaxed.

Scuttlebutt a few weeks ago mentioned UA approaching Republic about western flying and DEN 3.0, but was rejected by RJET either because of the phobia associated with being more than 200 miles from the Holy Trinity of IND/CMH/SDF or more likely, the growth of BOS for DL and the enormous increase of LGA flying resulting from Skywest's departure. Both would make staffing any additional flying difficult . Perhaps that is where the Compass/UA rumors are coming from.

I think inevitably the 50 pax aircraft are going to be the next to go and the bottom rung in the 121 ladder is going to be the 70-76 pax aircraft and eventually 100 pax aircraft, unless the FAA allows single pilot operation on short range 10-12 pax electric commuter aircraft.

Is it? If there were no regionals, all flying would be at mainline. But then there would be less overall pilots. So would be an interesting study in economics. What would the industry look like?

Unless it comes with some sort of pay banding it’s still left open to the top of the list discounting the bottom of the list rates to increase their own. I can almost guarantee you that would be managements first pass to a NC, top of the industry rates on big equipment coupled with regional “like” rates on small equipment. At least it gets you on the list sooner though so more time at the top out.
