To all Compass pilots,
I'm interested in learning the latest from the ranks so, a few questions if I may.
I'm a 2100+ TT pilot in Phoenix with about 250 ME and a bit over 500 turbine (single, vfr, part 135) and haven't touched an airplane in 8 years. The thought has crossed my mind to make a run at the majors via Compass.
Q#1 What is realistic take home pay for the starting line FOs these days?
Q#2 With regards to company provided health insurance, what would be cost for family of four and the insurance company be?
Q#3 What is the likelihood of getting PHX, or at least LAX as base these days?
Q#4 Are we expecting or seeing any signs of slow down in attrition over the next year or so?
Q#5 With a floor of 85 hours a month, what kind of actual duty time can a pilot expect to put in on a weekly/monthly basis?
Q#6 Do we have any idea what recruiting might require as far as recency experience? (I'm a little rusty but working on it.)
Q#7 Would you all mind sharing your views and experience of training so I have a better idea what to expect?
Q#8 Any tips for success to pass training, check rides, and generally being an awesome airline pilot.
Q#9 What are the current CA upgrade times?
Q#10 What's the latest on the merger talks?
Thanks in advance for all your help and wisdom.

Hopefully my answers are readable.
You can bid overlapping pairings, yes. System will only award you one of them, obviously.
To all Compass pilots,

Q#1 What is realistic take home pay for the starting line FOs these days?
I would plan on approx $41k gross not counting any bonus. Take home pay depends on your marginal tax rate, deductions, etc.
Q#2 With regards to company provided health insurance, what would be cost for family of four and the insurance company be?
$576/mo for a family for the good coverage. It can go down to $478 with a higher deductible etc I think, but yeah, not worth it probably. Insurance company is UnitedHealthcare. Only $153 for a single guy for others who are curious.
Q#3 What is the likelihood of getting PHX, or at least LAX as base these days?
See OP, nothing has changed. LAX is pretty much guaranteed, PHX you can probably get out of training quickly but it's a smaller base and it's the cheapest base, which tends to make it go more senior, but that has yet to happen. Sort of a moving target, but if you want PHX you can probably get PHX out of training.
Q#4 Are we expecting or seeing any signs of slow down in attrition over the next year or so?
Unlikely, it'll probably speed up if anything.
Q#5 With a floor of 85 hours a month, what kind of actual duty time can a pilot expect to put in on a weekly/monthly basis?
Not sure what you're asking here. Floor is now 80 for FO's, but the system might still build you up to 95. Duty, or time away from base? A 5 day trip is worth anywhere from 20-30 hours. On the junior side of things, you can count on probably 3 25 hr 5 days a month and a 24 hr 4 day, giving you 94 hours with 11/12 days off. It is what it is, especially when junior. When you're senior, which happens very quickly here, in the glory days we had 75 hr schedules with 19-20 days off. No word on if we'll ever return to those wonderful days, but now that we're staffed we're hopeful.... we should return to 15 off I would think pretty soon though if they can fix these garbage pairings that have you sitting in a hotel for 18 hours to work two short legs for a 6 hour duty day.
Q#6 Do we have any idea what recruiting might require as far as recency experience? (I'm a little rusty but working on it.)
No clue, sorry. Reach out to them and ask if you can.
Q#7 Would you all mind sharing your views and experience of training so I have a better idea what to expect?
Show up prepared, spend time every night studying, don't waste too much time with groups studying stuff you already get but don't be an introvert either, people can explain things differently in a way that helps you better understand, but keep it to small groups. Do that, and it should be a breeze.
Q#8 Any tips for success to pass training, check rides, and generally being an awesome airline pilot.
See above. As for being on the line, be detail oriented but also chill. Buy coffee for your FA's.
Q#9 What are the current CA upgrade times?
It could be 1.5 years to 3 years. It has averaged about 2 here.
Q#10 What's the latest on the merger talks?
Nothing public except that speculation article. We all think it's legit, but it won't really affect this place for years even if it does happen, and if it does it's hard to really say that it's negative, Trans States is about the worst owner you could have, while Republic isn't amazing I have to think that they have some assistance that we could appreciate.
Thanks in advance for all your help and wisdom.

Just read the entire PBS guide but still have some questions. Never bid pairings before and not sure if you can bid overlapping pairings or how that works. Trying to get 3 days off between work blocks minimum, but also trying to back to back trips to form commutable 6-day trips. If anyone here is a PBS wizard I’d love to chat on PM

So, is it just me or is it criminal that Empower/Great West takes a .5% expense ratio on the S&P 500 Index when I can go buy VFIAX, Vanguard Admiral shares S&P 500 for .04% expense ratio...
The compounded difference on that over 10 years is painful...

Criminal? No. Unfortunate? Yes. Talk to the union. Changing the purchase options in the 401k ought not to cost TSH much - if anything at all.

Pretty high expense ratios for sure. I just max my Vanguard Roth IRA first while just doing the 6% 401k match before doing anything else.

After class date was pushed back by 2 months, I ended up taking an interview with big daddy D’s wholly owned today. Got a CJO with ATP-CTP on 9/14 and class date of 10/1 (ironically my original Compass date). Is this the opportunity to try and power move HR and let them know with hopes of getting my original date back?

And yeah, like you I max out my roth IRA first, and then the rest into the Roth 401k. But I wish we had lower expense ratio options like Vanguard...
