I dont usually discuss snack basket rumors, but I'm gonna make an exception due to the enormous amount of inquiries the snack basket committee has been receiving. What I am authorized to say is #1, the company has been stubborn in negotiations, but we've held our ground, and #2, we finally have some LOAs in the works, they are just awaiting some final vetting from legal before we make any announcements. I cant confirm anything specific, but it might involve a well-known snack which mixes the flavors of chocolate and peanut butter in small circles. "Cups" if you will.

It seems like upgrades are getting priority scheduling over initial

If Recruiting keeps this up, we’re gonna loose all of our prospectives, just like we did when they stopped hiring in 2017. Given how few quality pilots are left, the worst thing a company can do is send those people to our competitors. Whatever is happened with the Recruiting Dept is very telling for our applicants to look elsewhere. I guess they want this airline to fail.

Far be it for me to say I Told You So, but back in the throes of being desperately short for FOs when captain upgrades were throttled back to- what was it? Eight or so a month? - I commented that the FO shortage would inevitably become a Captain shortage if it wasn't lead-turned.

A lot of our captains, even some of the senior FOs, have had 'the letter' for months now, but their major wasn't going to crank up classes until summer flying is over. Well, those of us staying will be bidding on the September schedule shortly and many of them won't. That's why we've got guys with only a year or so since DOH sneaking up on upgrade.

What's killing us is the logjam getting newbie's through training. Some of that's systemwide shortage of sims, some is the fact that the trainees are different than previous classes (less ME, 121, more rotor background) and the existing syllabus isn't adjusted for that yet, and some of it is that many of the instructors are sort of new in that role since the majors tend to poach instructors and LCAs at a somewhat higher rate.

As annoying as that is, it's actually not as bad as a number of other regionals where 8-9 months from indoc to completion of IOE isn't at all unheard of. Seems like everybody is needing more sims, Flight Trainers, etc right now. One of my buddies at Horizon informs me that they are just writing off going to some airports, afraid to do CatIIIs in a Q400 with a DEC with a couple hundred hours in type in the left seat and newbie FOs in the right (while they have E-Jet guys out the the ying-yang scarcely flying because AAG gave their good routes to Skywurst, but that's a different story.

The big problem unique to Compass of course, is the 6-7 month hiring freeze left a huge hole in the whole progression. No easy fix for that either. But eventually it WILL work its way through the que as more FOs come out of training and we'll get to some sort of tolerable situation, unless management does something equally stupid as the hiring freeze.

Sure, thanks to our last mec giving into right seat qual the company doesnt need as many fo's when they can just give ca's double duty. They can push upgrades through quicker than new hires and make it seem to big daddy D and momma A that were not as understaffed as we are... but dont worry theres a sunset clause 🙄

Right seat qual captains don't help much when you are short captains.

They also are paying captain pay for people to be in the right seat. That adds up fast. It won't last... Do you think they want to pay $41/hr to a NH fire, or $80/hr? do the math on that one... hah.

My 12M got pulled last month and I dequal in a couple weeks. Can they make me come do it on my day off or does it have to fit within one of my trips this month?

Dang, I can't imagine 8-9 months. Is that an actual thing? It's looking like 3.5 months from indoc to day 1 of IOE for me, up from the original 6 weeks that recruiting says.

Do not do it on your off days. They will have to pull you from a trip.
