BLS those memes are the only thing making me smile today. But the pain is real, they hit close to home.

My understanding...and I’ve been wrong before
...is that they simply forgot to account for everyone’s training events.
When those were added back into the mix, the ALV went up considerably for those with no training events. Of course, if they’d rolled those events forward into August (at least the ones they could) August would have been even worse than July wound up being.

I think there’s more too it because the pendulum swung all the way in the other direction. I am supposed to have 6 training days blocked off. First run I had zero blocked off but a great schedule. 2nd run I have 24 “T” days blocked off and nothing else. This is the same case for many of my buddies that have training planned as well. I believe they went from no preassigned to too much preassigned. So my guess is if they do a 3rd run (and done correctly), the final schedules will look more like reality.

The mileage varies, the first run didn’t include my training. The second run included by training and kept my trips on the same days as the first run. I also bid around 80% so I’m definitely not super senior. People like me don’t want it rerun again for the third time, others want it rerun yet again, it’s a lose lose situation now.

My original July schedule was...awesome. Probably the best I’ll EVER see until I’m like 64 and 1/2. Of course it didn’t include training that I and a lot of other people needed. And if we had simply shoved that training into the August schedule -along with the August training - the bodies wouldn’t have been there to execute the August flying. Probably not September either.
So OK, it sounds like schedule 2 may be FUBAR as well. Excess training days hurt us in July but it also means that some people aren’t getting the flying hours they are going to need to upgrade promptly this Fall, and we need people on the leading edge of the hiring wave after the long hiring freeze to upgrade because we are losing a LOT of captains to the majors as soon as the summer rush for them and us is over.
Yes, the hiring freeze was disastrously stupid, but that was two years ago and it can’t be changed now. It’s consequences need to be dealt with. And yeah, management shouldn't Have run the operation this lean, but they did and even if they hired another couple hundred new FOs tomorrow it would do nothing to alleviate the captain shortage in time for the next six months.
And oh yeah, it woukd have been nice if whoever is currently messing up the schedule had been appropriately trained before they were put in that position, and to that extent it is a lose lose situation, but it has to be done RIGHT, right enough to get a legal and executable schedule, both now and for the next six months. All of our careers will depend on that.

It's as if there is a committee in place whose job is to grind down morale. Hit after hit.
Anyway, the 2nd run award is completely fubared for me. Thanks TSH. From now on I'm only putting the same level of effort and quality into my job as I'm given example of from corporate.

I can understand the need to vent, but the important thing is to get this situation un-effed, preferably as quickly as possible. Since they have two strikes on them already, I don’t imagine they are going to rush this though.

As many of you know, I don't usually share parables.. But here is a parable:
A pilot flies a flight and on the way storms move near the destination airport. He's not sure if he can safely make it. He thinks "I should land at the nearest suitable!" but his FO talks him off the ledge.. "why don't we add an alternate instead?" the FO asks.
They continue the flight with an added alternate and even have a couple back up alternates that, though not on the release, could work as well.. That way if everyone else heads to their listed alternate, they still have back up plan. They brief the bottom line and back up plans, and continue to the airport feeling a lot better.. weary from the decision making, the Captain calls back to the FAs and asks for coke and the snack basket..
The end
