Why are compass captains so stingy with the apu? Why won’t they start it when boarding begins, especially now that it’s cold? Is that 15-20 mins of fuel really saving anything?

What I've noticed in my early days is that I could be distracted, I didn't notice it's cold/hot in the back (there's a noticeable difference in cockpit temp from the rest of the plane), and finally there may be a real reason to conserve some fuel due to possible delay. If you feel that you or the passengers are uncomfortable speak up. If he/she says no politlelly inquire why.

For all the stingy captains, keep in mind that an extra 20 minutes with the APU running is like 80 pounds of gas. I can't imagine a scenario where 80 pounds of gas is going to make or break whether you have to divert or not, or do a gate return or not. It's like a minutes worth of gas in cruise.

And it's certainly not affecting MY profit sharing check.

Look guys, it's like I always tell my FOs as we single engine taxi to 25R from the box-- "save the fuel, save the job"

Squeezed a Republic newbie for some intel. Said they cancelled a few months of classes early next year even though they still need pilots.

So...#mergerconfirmed or nah??

Haha I’m fairly certain it has to do with upgrading. Kinda like CPZ did this fall. Free up sim time for the captain upgrades means less classes due to less sim time.

My prediction - as we get nearer the end of the Delta contract one of three things will happen:

1. The Delta contract will be renewed.
2. Flying will be found to replace the Delta flying.
3. TSH will sell off Compass separate from its other two airlines as it has steadfastly refused to do in the past despite two reported offers.

But UNTIL we approach the end of the Delta flying, there's really not that much pressure on HK to do ANY of the above. He can afford to play chicken with those who want Compass but not TSA or GoJet until a crash becomes ALMOST unavoidable. Only at that point - when the value of Compass will be compromised if he doesn't have a deal - will he be forced to make a deal or lose money.

It’s been a while since the APU debates.
Passenger and crew member comfort is paramount. When you walk on the plane you can tell what it feels like right away.

If it’s working I always have it on by the time boarding starts.
The back of the plane gets uncomfortable quite quickly when you have a bunch of flustered travelers on board.

Is the delta one that is supposedly up for renewal in 2020? If so we're not that far out if is the first of the year in 2020.
