The scope clause in United's contract with the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) limits it to 255 large regional aircraft, defined as ones with up to 76 seats and a maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of 39,010kg (86,000lb), and a cap of 450 regional aircraft when the contract becomes amendable in January 2019.
The Chicago-based carrier had 494 regional aircraft, including 235 large regional jets and 238 jets with up to 50 seats, in its feeder fleet at the end of 2016, its latest fleet plan shows.

Did you read the linked article? Limit is 450 and they were at 494 in 2016.

I just reread (skimmed) the UA contract scope clause and did not see an end of contract change for scope.

So what happens in 2019 if United’s scope clause doesn’t increase and they have to reduce the regional jet flying?

There is no scheduled change in 2019, and there will be no change until an agreement is made. Who knows when that will be.

With the amount of attrition we saw the last couple of months, on top of the CPP guys leaving first quarter, this might be another "window" to get in here. Don't expect a quick upgrade, but there will be another large hiring wave starting in Feb after the last D8 guys transition.

Not with Envoy offering a $40K bonus to new hires with prior 121 and Endeavor's looming TA with greatly increased pay and soft pay. And a ton of airlines with a 6-12 month upgrade right now.

Not trying to stir the pot or start rumors, hearing this from the union, there are going to be downgrades and displacements out of IAD. It’s about to get even uglier here. Get your logbooks up to date and start filling out apps.

People downgraded or displaced from IAD would be able to get it back quickly once the dash leaves IAD, no? More ERJ spots in IAD are bound to open up. And, the senior dash people from EWR that are taking those IAD dash spots will have no reason to stay in IAD once the dashes are gone.
