CommutAir Rumors and Info

There are a lot of ERJ ca bids now. I can see the ERJ going to a 6+ mo upgrade(possibly longer now that the EWR base will entice more D8'guys to bid over) while the D8 looks like will be street captains for a while. I know a July hire trying to upgrade to the jet but is so far unable to get the call.

I've heard the latest ERJ upgrade was Oct 3 class. Dash can upgrade immediately if you choose to. I have a buddy in the class right after that, and he hasn't been awarded CA yet.

I probably should apply to commute air, but to be honest I would love to fly the dash but not sure my skills are up to the task especially after all that glass time. I don't think I can afford to be in IAD or EWR on FO salary.

Unless you already have roots at a crew base it's pretty much a commuting gig even with the bonus. They do provide 4 hotels a month and paid parking to commuters, which beats most other regionals. Guys getting the Dash I've heard can get to the jet before finishing training I've been told by my buddy in the training dept. However, expect a few months to finish the E145 program. I have 1700 hours in and am 121 current in the jet, so I don't mind to avoid an unnecessary type rating. I have NO desire whatsoever to fly the Dash.

My advice to anyone thinking about coming here that's afraid/refuses fly the Dash:
Don't make such a bold, dumb decision.
You would be giving up precious seniority. Plus if you have prior 121 time you WILL get the call for whichever airplane you want in a few months- that's the reality of how much C5 is growing.
I came here in Jan 2016 and my entire class got the Dash; nobody b*tched and now we are all sitting at 50%+ company seniority as mostly jet CAs. There's no reason that shouldn't be the same for someone hired today 12 months from now.
As for the CPP question - There is a dynamic number of people leaving each quarter.
That being said, if you are expecting/feeling entitled to get in, upgrade into the jet right before indoc is over, and leave for UAL 12 months later, You are truly setting yourself up for disappointment. A realistic expectation of coming here (and granted, this is all my opinion) is to sit 4-6 months as an FO, upgrade (training cycle between 1-4 months), and IF you get into the CPP, expect 12-24 months of building your PIC time before going over.
Hope this helps for anyone thinking of coming over.
PM if you have more questions.
