This is essentially what I was told would happen. I'm a new hire waiting for upgrade training. Upgraded out of indoc. When I was told I had been awarded captain, I was specifically told it was as a CQF.
As such, I could bid as an FO, work as an FO, and get paid as an FO. Or, I could bid as a CA, but might be scheduled to fly FO legs/trips, in which case I would still be paid as a CA. I was also told there was no time frame for the FA training, and that it might be awhile after I finish CA sims/IOE.

I can see that happening to the Dash guys, but not to ERJ people for a while. The October new hires have sims as far out as Late January. We just don't have the training capacity to do this right now.

How I think about it.
1. If you are prior 121 and have not upgraded; coming here makes a lot of since as you WILL upgrade shortly after training. The CPP, united's career path program, is icing on the cake.
2. You get to take the United Hogan exam prior to joining CommutAir. (currently to my understanding) If you pass the exam and come to CommutAir the United interview is all on you. If you do the full in person interview prep, have them review your airline apps application, there is a very good chance that you will be accepted. (We have had great guys not get accepted however, but no one was in the room with them during the interview and we don't know what's in their past. So it's hard to tell what went wrong. But they do get a second chance after a year.)
3. United's ownership structure of the airline provides stability.
4. Go somewhere with growth and that's has Known attrition from the top. CommutAir has this, other airlines may as well. (To my limited understanding; airlines such as XJT and Air Wisconsin sadly do not. We have seen many of these pilots show up at our door and join CommuAir)
