I also heard that you have to have "United Minimums" but they didn't say exactly what that was. I think it is a different "minimum" than United actually uses to hire off the street. The person I spoke to made it sound like flowing up at 2500 total time probably wouldn't happen and you would need to be competitive to get it.
Also, you would not be flowing at 2500 TT because 750 hours (minimum ATP Req)+1000 (121 Ops for Upgrade) + 1000 (TPIC at C5) is 2750, minimum. Besides, United has hired military pilots with 1500 hours. So, the minimum for United is 1500 TT and 1000 Turbine.

If I were a West Coast guy, I'd heavily consider Compass or Skywest. Don't commute cross country

PSA is going to hire into the 146 or MD80 soon. A few 727 FE spots might open. Sully was there so you know the training is top notch.
AirCal might need 737-200 or MD-80 people.
Or go to Oakland to see World or Transamerica. You might have to fly an L-100 in Angola for a while though.
Good luck.

If you want to work at Alaska you're statistically more likely to be hired outside Qx and you get to save your dignity too.
