It just seems unusual since it takes about 60 seconds to put a pilot into CASS and KCM. And that includes handing them the cards.

Perhaps they travel home positive space between ground school and sim? That’s what I did.

Do you have to be cockpit qualified, as in finished with sims, to actually sit in the jumpseat? I can see holding CASS until then, but KCM is about background checks and employment, not cockpit access.

Mesa - our new hires do obs flights prior to their initial check ride. But not till after starting sims.

I’ve seen that when commuting. They are listed for the jumpseat as a training event, but can they go jumpseat around the country on other airlines?

I was at another airline before c5 and had kcm and cass after the 1st week of Indoc. Had to jumpseat on airtran and southwest to get home on the weekends during training. Not sure why c5 makes you wait.

When Regionals started hiring CFIs to fly their first aircraft over 12,500 lbs they quickly found out that those who went home every weekend had a high failure rate compared to those who stayed. Many instituted a policy of no CASS until some threshold event during training, Nonrev benefits are different. They usually take in effect as soon as HR and the airline you have benefits go through the process which could be anywhere to a week or a month depending on where.

If your marriage is really that fragile that being away for 2 to 3 weeks will break it, it was probably on its last ropes any way. If it is that much of an issue then drive or buy a ticket, they are cheap right now.

I am on my second regional. Both airlines did not give us CASS until after we finished sims.
One of the other reasons not to give out jumpseat privileges could be the number of students that did not show back up on Monday because they got bumped out of the jumpseat by someone else or just didn't plan ahead very well getting back to class.

We also see better progress by those that do not go home for the one or two days off at a time.

If youre complaining about having CASS right away in this atmosphere maybe you should have your class date pushed out so people who want to keep chomping at the bit can get back at it. Take that attitude to training as a CFI coming in and you might just end up at home before you know it.
