I really don’t understand any of this. This is genuine, I’m not trying to be a jerk. Why in the world would any regional like C5 be hiring right now? United might put thousands of its own pilots on the street in a few weeks. The CEO of United said he wants to do away with 50 seaters. There will be no international travel for a long time. I’m so confused.
Also, for those of you who had previous class dates and are getting called back, will you have to pay for your own ATPCTP before class?

For reasons already stated in the thread is why. Here is the link for those so inclined. We are hiring.

To simply put C5 is doubling in size. UA decided to can Xjet and give 35 planes C5 and give them xjets IAH base. They already have some staffing for these. There numbers are down bc covid but still not enough to cover all the flying by Dec. Probably will be hiring roughly 200-300 pilots. With that being said it will only be currently ATP licensed turbine time experience only. No bonuses.

As Expressjet ops in IAH are transferring over to us we need to hire. People with previous 121 time and time on the 145 will be looked at more favourably than say a fresh FAA ATP with no jet time.
Internal refs are encouraged if you know a C5 pilot who will vouch for you.
I don't know class sizes or exact dates but the training center has been told to expect people soon.

It's easy to explain, but brutal in its execution. United could have saved ExpressJet, but halved it in size. You then have to furlough the cheaper employees and keep the more expensive, senior ones. The other choice is to save CommutAir and expand to the desired size. Now you have a lower payroll and hire at year one rates. Plenty of former 145 drivers (both ExpressJet and TransStates) to choose from.
