I have heard that from a lot of guys.

We are upgrading and UA is starting classes again and skimming guys off of the top of our seniority list. We are adding 1 1/2 planes a month and have been upgrading for the last few months with bids for upgrade through Aug right now. Upgrades are around a year right now as you can see in v1valarob posts. There are 4 more upgrades for August. We are running classes every couple of weeks.

Upgrades at 1 year regardless of previous 121 time?

I believe so. We had a big hiring wave about a year and a half ago and these first officers are now sitting right around 1000 hrs 121. So it'll be tied to seniority. It seems that things are moving along pretty smoothly in the pipeline right now. With that said, the more we are able to hire, the quicker we'll be able to accept aircraft, which could speed up upgrade times for those coming in with previous experience.

From what I've heard, do not be surprised to see the pool of eligible FOs exhausted by the end of summer. Upgrades coming during indoc may not be far off again.

Standard airline disclaimer- believe it when you see it, prior performance no indication of future results.

If you are asking the question that I think you are, then currently the answer is yes.

This will happen IF we can fill classes.

Here's hoping we don't repeat the mistake of two years ago, and fill classes with a mix of upgrade eligible pilots and some that aren't. While upgrades are great for everyone, kind of throws a wrench in the works when we suddenly don't have FO's because we upgraded all the new hires.

You assume the company has a recruitment plan beyond hiring anyone and letting training sort it out.

It worked 2 years ago because they only had to award 30% of jet CA spots to dash CAs. The rest were 100% FOs or new hires. So they could force the pilot group to allow off the street jet CAs.

It's going to be much riskier to try as a street CA now here. If you get in on the front of the wave, it'll work out well. If you get in on the back end, there will be classes of captain eligible pilots ahead of you AND the FOs that are reaching 1000 hours.

And this isn't an Endeavor or Envoy where being a FO is a decent place to hang out or there is an abnormally bad base (NYC) to bid around.
