Do the 777 crews do a lot of sitting at home, on long call, waiting for trips?

How difficult is it to pick up a couple days of overtime while on rotation?

On long call? Quite often.
At home? Sometimes. Depends on how far you live from a gateway, especially one that we fly into and out of often (BWI, AFW, SEA).
Overtime? Volunteer requests are going out weekly at the moment. Of course this is subject to change.

Should be a few more classes to be filled for the 767. They say the 777 is close to staffed right with this latest class. We’re averaging 1 leaving each week. Hired 5 yesterday, interviewed 4 today.
Management wants Omni to be a destination airline for pilots. We’ll see how that plays out at the bargaining table.

I think currently it's as soon as you can get here. In essence anyway, depending on the class dates, background checks and any other contingent requirements. But there really isn't a "pool" so to speak. So when they offer you the job usually they'll offer you the next class date if there's a spot. Also there's a grip of home study crap that needs to be completed. Takes a good 2 weeks to get through. One of our new hires can undoubtedly give you a better idea than me.

Welcome on board! If that's what's happening.

what about monthly hours? Should you just budget for 64 Guarantee, or is MORE available if you want it?
if so what’s a good guesstimate of how many hours you could do in a month?

thanks in advance!

Lots of moving parts with this question, but a few factors to consider.

definitely always budget for the monthly (minimum) pay guarantee (MPG), you and the family won’t be disappointed or caught off guard. We can all end up in the “Jelly of the month” club vs. putting in the swimming pool! 😀

it’s almost impossible to predict with any real accuracy on slow times of the year vs. busy. Current factors are attrition and staffing for each airframe, additional demand from our customer base, new business (sub-service) for other carriers, general chaos in the world at large that mainline carriers can’t or won’t touch from a business model stand point, etc.

with that, as a snap shot, there is plenty of extra flying opportunities on OFF days; which means time away from family and friends.

Pay Credit Hours (PCH) can be over and above the 64 guarantee, but too many nuances to mention here.

Hope this helps.
