What's that say about them? Either that their crystal balls were foggier than they thought or that they wanted a known short term bump in pay before retirement. Can't see how bouncing around in the US in a RJ even approaches "cake" TRANSCOM flying.

Good day all - long time lurker, first time poster.
I'm considering Omni, Atlas, ATI, Envoy and Republic. Timing is not great.
I know currency/receny is going to be a limiting factor, but how much time elapsed would be 'too long' since my last flight. I have a small war chest of cash to go rent a twin and build some civ time, so planning to mitigate any rustiness that way. Sitting at just over 2,000 hours, all turbine time, about 600 PIC. I'll have about 150 hours turbine time in the previous year as of now.
Mainly considering Omni, Atlas, etc for the heavy turbine time. The schedules are different between cargo and regional, but that is fine and fits the dynamic at home. Ultimately would like to be in the DFW/IAH areas to settle.
Thanks!

my personal opinion is they weren't happy with the new management, and the pay elsewhere made it an easy choice. They are schoolhouse instructors. When they do go fly it's open trips on OT, or they displace anybody to get any required hours. They spend 90% of the time doing Sim. Easy gig.

To my knowledge, neither one are instructors yet. I’ve heard differently than you…

I wouldn't send my worst enemy to envoy. They have unlimited airport standby / ready reserve, they junior man pilots like crazy, and their management is not employee friendly. The recruiters talk a great talk but it's all bull.
the only way I'd ever recommend envoy is if you live within callout drive time to DFW or ORD. Every other base they've opened or closed without warning. Living n base at a regional makes it almost an entirely different job. Never ever commute for envoy.
that said, it varies if you're talking new hire FO with zero 121 experience or a DEC. the DEC contracts aren't bad at all. The FO ones vary. You'd be surprised though, most of the better regionals have some type of contract now, even if it's only a 1-2 year training payback.

777s and this week’s airline IT meltdown
Seeing as National signed a contract for 4 777 freighters I guess that means Omni isn't going to be getting any.
How has this week's IT meltdown affected getting crews into position?? I've been off so blissfully unaware of anything!

I can't say I have been following any 777 rumors at Omni, but just looking at the announcement for National's order, I don't see any way that Omni figures into this at all.
National says this order is for fleet expansion. Apparently, they think there is enough business to keep them busy, but it's not apparent that anyone is asking National in particular to fly 777s for them.
If anyone thinks that Omni was just going to order four 777s and then go find the business for them, that displays a fundamental misunderstanding of the ATSG business model. ATSG airlines do not make large capital expenditures with the hope of finding business to make them pay off. If Omni is going to get 777 freighters, it will be because a company comes to Omni/ATSG as an ACMI customer, and that customer will probably have to be the one to bring the aircraft, because ATSG is not currently in the business of acquiring and leasing 777s outside of those that Omni brought to ATSG when the company was acquired.

How do you get to that conclusion? How was one company's business linked to the other? Was there only room for four more 777s in the cargo business?
