Good day all - long time lurker, first time poster.
I'm considering Omni, Atlas, ATI, Envoy and Republic. Timing is not great.
I know currency/receny is going to be a limiting factor, but how much time elapsed would be 'too long' since my last flight. I have a small war chest of cash to go rent a twin and build some civ time, so planning to mitigate any rustiness that way. Sitting at just over 2,000 hours, all turbine time, about 600 PIC. I'll have about 150 hours turbine time in the previous year as of now.
Mainly considering Omni, Atlas, etc for the heavy turbine time. The schedules are different between cargo and regional, but that is fine and fits the dynamic at home. Ultimately would like to be in the DFW/IAH areas to settle.
Thanks!

We're losing all 737s by this time next year and most of the 767s pretty fast.
I would say, unfortunately, Atlas won't be much of an option for the next year or so.
In general, I would say, with hiring appearing to be slowing down industry wide, you should take the very first turbine PIC job you can find and then continue to stoke the rest of the irons in your fire.
Lastly, BE PATIENT. The hiring and movement we've seen since things opened up after COVID hasn't been seen since, I don't know, the airlines were deregulated in 1978.
If things slow down a bit that just means hiring is "normalizing". It doesn't mean things are COLLAPSING.
If you want a career in the airlines you'll have to play a very long game of Steps and Ladders.
Good luck.

Once hiring at other more desirable places slows or comes to a halt, so will the hiring at Omni. With a stagnant level of operations, junior guys will probably be looking at furloughs. So there is that.
If you have no other choices, you have to do what you have to do, but Omni under present management and circumstances, would be at the absolute bottom of my list. My two cents.
Best of luck.

Consider that there is zero growth at Omni, in fact in can reasonably be said that the airline is shrinking. The current little hiring is due strictly to attrition.

Yes, there are companies that are currently hiring, but it’s at a much slower rate with class dates potentially a year from now.
My situation, I have a CJO from Republic, Omni, and a potential CJO, from Envoy, but I’m still waiting for them to put my package up for the Captains review board (7 weeks post interview today) and with American pausing hiring, I could see that review board being delayed for another seven weeks.
Could I pass up on my class with Omni and wait for that phone call for a class date from the two regionals? Sure, but with CJOs being rescinded across the industry, I would likely find myself with zero CJOs and I am not in a financial position to just wait and let that happen.

I’m in a very similar position as V1rotategearup. Due to luck and timing, doors are closing quickly and for me, Omni is my only option at this point in time, so for people like us it’s not as easy as considering something else.

At least you’ll get a type rating that could potentially improve your chances for a better job in the future.
Again, best of luck.

Always entertaining when employees at a given company warn off the new-comers. This place is the pits, it sucks, we're abused, don't come here. No one in their right mind would be here. Stay away. stay far away. Abandon hope if you come here. There is no place worse. It is the epitome of death. This place is shaped like a giant coffin, when seen from the sky. We are an active tragedy. Mourn for us, but avoid us like an amorous ape with raging herpes. Just sail on by.
One is left to ponder of the poster who gives these warnings: if indeed it's the bottom of the barrel, what are YOU still doing there?

Doesn’t mean I’m not actively searching for a way out.
But thanks for your astute observation.

if you live in one of the regional bases you'll upgrade faster there, and most have some tie-in with a legacy or two. Dont commute for a regional. Terrible quality of life.
ATI is hiring too. You'll fly more there than Omni, and with current events you'll fly more than them too for some time.
I've looked at the contracts. I'd do Republic over Envoy everyday if the week unless you live in DFW. ATI has home basing so they're a good choice too. I'd do them before Omni.
omni should be considered a life boat while you continue applying elsewhere.

they "all" have not stopped hiring. One regional is furloughing 53 because United pulled some flying for poor completion factor and gave the flying t a different regional. Piedmont stopped and with only the E145 they will be the incredible shrinking airline till the pilot group is merged into Envoy. Republic hired 35 in the past 2 weeks. Skywest is filling classes too.
