Run far far away and Save yourself the time and money. The only airline that is shrinking today. You'll spend a ton of money to house and transport yourself during training all on 40k a year and be on reserve forever.

I am pretty sure there isn’t. It would probably have to be in the CBA.

This place is toxic!

No chance of advancement. No housing during training. No per diem during training. No CASS during training (had to buy a ticket home to see my kids).

Take home pay is probably around $22-25,000 and you will be on reserve forever.

ATSG hates ABX. So Does Soaper. All new equipment goes to ATI. There used to be about 100 hard lines, now have about 70. We are a shrinking airline.

Anywhere else is better. Well, maybe not Omni....

There is no training contract, so there is nothing holding you here if you get a better offer a few months down the road, other than that you will have to return or reimburse the company for the cost of your uniforms if you leave before the end of your first year. About 30% of the people I was hired with left within a year.

That said, be aware that there are problems here.

The future is cloudy. We are losing a bunch of flying as the companies who have been chartering us get their own aircraft, leased to them by ATSG’s aircraft leasing subsidiary.

We could have grown more with the Amazon contract, but the CEO of ABX and ATSG, who has a personal beef with the pilot group going back many years, used the strike in 2016 as an excuse to give aircraft that were supposed to go to ABX to ATSG’s other airline ATI instead.

Management plays a shell game with money, overcharging its airlines for maintenance and leases so that it looks like those subsidiaries are making money hand over fist while the airlines are made to look like losers.

For contract negotiation purposes, the president of ABX has maintained a position that we are overstaffed, threatening furloughs, even in the face of a stream of departing new hires. Obviously, he has had to change his tune.

You will be on reserve indefinitely. That’s not necessarily bad. Reserves here work. During my first year, I averaged maybe four days a month where I was available but unassigned.

So while I wouldn’t encourage anyone to come here, I also do not presume to know what is best for anybody’s career. I am not unhappy with my decision to come here. I’m having a great time, and I’m getting calls that I would not have gotten otherwise without this experience. The people you will work with are great. But you have been warned. Do not complain when everything you have been told turns out to true.

This is for Soapy and Joe:

The words out boys! Maybe you should sell ABX certificate while it has some value.

I’m relatively senior (new hire 151er) FO. I always been positive about this place, no matter what "funny" management did. Honestly, this place could have been a good career choice, but JH's personal ambitions make this place really toxic environment. It’s time to look around.

if anyone is thinking about coming here....don't make that mistake....you will be miserable sitting reserve on the most beautiful pilot crew room that I have ever been on....the yellow paint everywhere just gonna make you sick after sitting reserve for 12 hours....
seriously you will hate yourself after 1 month...

I second this. I was probably the biggest cheerleader for this place. Such incredible potential that now, is just mismanaged. At one point I tried to get friends to come here only to turn around and rescind my recommendation for ABX.

I hadn't looked for another job since coming here until now. Now I'm actually considering other options and I'm afraid to say that if one of them comes thru, I will probably bolt too. Seems like this place is being run by someone with revenge in mind instead of smarts.

Anyone seen the stock price for ATSG? I'd say for all that ATSG encompasses, that price should be a lot more. Maybe someday the board will get rid of Joe and put real leadership in.
