FDX Service Awards
#23
Last summer, when I got the package for my 20yr award. I checked it all out, priced a few item - all crap. In the end, wasn't worth my time to even order my "free" junk item. I even called the company/vender for the company, in case there was some secret list of items I was missing. Nope. My 5 yr I got a very nice clock that stills sits on a mantle in my house. My 10 yr I got the globe - not super expensive, but at least it had a logo on it and looks nice on a shelf next to my model MD11, DC10 and Navy models. This stuff now is pure crap. What's worse, I kept getting these annoying emails to order this crap. It finally ended after 6 months. I bought myself a bottle of Firefly Sweet Tea vodka as a 20 yr gift to myself, instead.
Ditto!!!!!

The awards appear to be Dollar General clearance table merchandise with a FDX logo on them.
I don't know why they don't just make it simple...All I would need is an hour of pay for each year of service on every 5th year anniversary.
Of course, we'd have to fill out a paylog to "request" it. And then we'd have to call crew pay a few weeks later, to get them to act on the paylog.

Actually, the tool kit is pretty nice. Most everything for the 20 year service awards appear to be junk, but the tool kit is good. Not something that most of us with a garage full of tools would use, but a great item to give to your college age kid, or to keep in your car or boat.
Though all I really want is a contract---the tool kit is a useful thing that people might like.

Real world update ...
I procrastinated several months ordering my 20 year Service Award as I too was rather "non-plussed" with the seemingly low quality and limited choices being offered.
About 2 weeks ago I stumbled across the paperwork again. I requested and received (via FedEx 3-day shipping) the Spaulding backpack.
My original thought was that maybe it would be nice enough to donate to a local charity fundraiser or maybe it would be nice enough for the grandkids to use for school?
It arrived today, I just opened it and I have to admit ... it's rather nice (nicer quality than the Dollar Store clearance product I was expecting). It seems that the Company's appreciation awards for our honestly dedicated hard work has become a victim of Managements cost cutting measures (I "think" I remember the 10 year awards being slightly nicer?) but ...
It doesn't even have a FedEx logo anywhere that I can see through the plastic bag. I'll take back half of my trash-talking on this subject.
Now ... if they really appreciated us we'd get a TA soon ... Please?

Well, Charlie Brown, I got a rock.
I was beyond underwhelmed by the 20 year selection. For the 10 year I got my wife a very nice Waterford Crystal vase. If they're going to have some kind of "award", make it good, not pathetic. Forget the $ value, just have something interesting, not insulting.

I got my wife the silver FedEx necklace, not the greatest, but she appreciated the thought. I think the program is well intentioned, but after making $800M net profit last quarter, they could upgrade the quality of these awards.
