You're right. I hope so too......

Be careful what you wish for. Fred is learning to buy and drive trucks and once he does you WILL lose flying...there isn't a damned thing your contract or ours does to stop it. Why do you think UPS will see almost 4.5-5.0 billion in NET profit to your what...2.0? It is good "business" to sell a 2 day "air" product that never sees an airplane. Not good "business" for us personally unfortunately. UPS' domestic trucking/rail network is mature...we will only see more flying. Good thing there's plenty of work for both of us. Add to that, if the dems really get all cargo screened we will both see alandfall from the pax ops

Bob,

What some guys fear here is that Fred will truck more... I promise you this.... If he could truck it now cheaper he would! We had guys crapping in their pants in '97 when the USA Today article came out that Fred was going to make us a computer tracking (internet) company.

Thanks God guys don't feel that way now!

We'll not lose flying to trucks...

Being a new guy to UPS, the aircraft acquistion manager talked to us and told there was no way the 777 would show up at UPS. Although it could carry its max payload farther, it could not carry nearly as much overall and it cost 2x as much as the 747-400.

FWIW.

Being a senior guy at UPS, that pretty well means we'll be seeing 777's in our future.

I agree both companies are very good. Both copy each other and that is why they are the best in the business!!!!!!!!!
Sorry to pile on, but your first statement is exactly the reason why you've grown so slowly, while FedEx has exploded in pilot and aircraft growth. And besides, I'd like to see them (either UPS or FedEx) Next Day or Second Day Air stuff from China, India, or anyplace else outside the lower 48. It's never gonna happen.

Any of you guys working for UPS remember when your airline was just starting out and your management went to the truck drivers and asked if any of them wanted to be pilots? None of them said "Yes." Now that was classic.
