There are leather jackets out there that are made to be worn with epaulets. If that's the big issue someone hasn't researched it very thoroughly.

UPS Pilots: Wear the ugly ass brown uniforms they are told to wear and have a rock solid union

FedEx Pilots: Wear whatever the hell they want and their "Association" couldn't run a 7 Eleven

I had a discussion with BM in the Flight Operations area maybe two or 3 years ago. I told him that the 'rumor mill' said he wanted to get rid of the parka as an authorized uniform item. He concurred with all of the good attributes of the parka.

He then asked me that, "If both pilots are wearing parkas, which one is the Captain?" His issues seemed to be one of no 'rank' identification. I pointed out that if both pilots are wearing parkas then they are probably not in the cockpit and so ... does it matter which one is the Captain? He didn't agree and I suspected it would be gone at some point. I'm surprised it took this long.

I sure do wish that Flight Management was spending their time making our jobs easier!*?

Someone else that needs to be reminded that this is not the military. The captain is the pilot that sits in the left seat, signs the paperwork, makes decisions, and earns a higher hourly wage than the other pilot.

Festooning arguably the most functional jacket we have ever had with some sort of decoration to indicate his 'rank' is just silly (as are our costumes in general).

Cubicle commandos. Gotta love 'em.
