Somebody mentioned, "It's your responsibility to get your consolidation hours." Thats what the nastygram senders want you to think. But it's not accurate. The 100-hour-experience rule is a requirement for the company. If they cannot provide you the opportunity to fulfill it, then they potentially lose a revenue-generating pilot while they "retrain" you. Fortunately for both pilots and mgmt the "retraining" is most likely a no-sweat line check.
A few years ago, when I called skeds to beg them for a trip while on reserve (thinking it WAS my responsibility to consolidate) I was told that I could try to pick up trips on my days off. I asked to PDO bump guys and was told they would have to take my R-day(s). That's ridiculous.
Since then, skeds has been "redirected" towards meeting consolidation requirements more efficiently. There's a more restrictive time profile and if you are below it they SHOULD be putting you on FF and allowing you to PDO. If they don't, enjoy your time off...

Leroy,

Whereas you might, by the letter of the law, be correct in your statement, it's the individual pilot who is penalized for not getting consolidation done on time. Seems to me that the nastygram I received also stated that I'd loose my RLG (to be banked) because I was going to go NOQ. Also, when is it that you don't consider a line check to be a jeopardy ride. As well, a line check will not correct a lack of consolidation. I believe that one has to make an appearance back in the school house (read: Simulator) and pass another simulator check ride, in order to continue in consolidation. It's much better to just get the consolidation done and over with. As well, "They" cannot put you on first fly. That's something only the individual pilot can do. Also, if you're bumping up against the consolidation timeframe, you can PDO bump another pilot, with the approval of crew scheduling, and that pilot won't have to stand your R days (if you were on R days to begin with.)

Sure they can, they may not call it first fly but it has the same effect. They did it to me last June and July. The same section addresses the PDO aspect.

25. M. 6. ii.

The Company may assign a reserve outside of leveling order to satisfy
FAR minimum block hour requirements following training for a new
crew position, and pilot proficiency requirements.
The pilot shall also
have the ability to request a PDO bump to satisfy such requirements,
as provided in Section 25.L.10.a. Such requests shall be granted if
CRS determines that the pilot is not on target to meet proficiency or
consolidation requirements and that the trip requested is an
appropriate means of addressing that issue.

The line check will extend the period of time allowed to accumulate the consolidation hours.

I stand corrected! But still stand by my statement of finishing consolidation on ones own, rather than having the company "help" me along the way. If I've not been flying this brand new (at least for me) piece of equipment, but instead, just hanging out, waiting to be called to fly, you can rest assured that the last thing I'd want is another line check. But, again, that's just me. I'm sure that for those of us who spend hours and hours studying and reviewing the CFM and FOM, while sitting reserve, or on our days off, we would look forward to being able to show a line check airman what we're made of.
