Fed Ex Jumpseat question.
Hey guys. I called the JS listing number to list as an offline pilot. I was told that there was one seat left (MD-11) and that I would be put on stand by, and can get on with the CA's approval. In the past I was always confirmed and never on "stand by" is this something new?

Many of the MD-11s have no seats in the back (or all are already booked) leaving only cockpit seats and usually require Capt's permission to be prebooked in the cockpit. Been this way for a long time, and not just for offline pilots.

JUmpseats can and will book one of the cockpit seats the last one requires Captain's approval. Little known fact, even if you are the last guy on standby with the latest time stamp if you get your Captain's approval email to Jumpseats before the other standbys you get the jumpseat out of order

Thanks guys, that makes sense. The last time I rode on Fed Ex. I was told there was one seat left and it was mine. This will be the first to be on Stand By. Now, since I'm listed.. Can A Fed Ex guy list after me and still bump me, if he was commuting home also, or will the agent not even list him since I am listed on the last seat.

I've only ever left one jumps eater behind - a lat minute offline guy on standby. I had 3 standbys for 2 seats. Last minute guy got left behind. Hated to do it, but I had no seats. I went outside of security (FDX security wouldnt let him in) to personally let him know! He at least appreciated that.

If multiple people have listed on standby, the seat will go to the first person who gets a "Glad to have you aboard" email reply from the Captain, copied to Jumpseat Admin. Unfortunately, this puts the offline pilot at a competitive disadvantage, since a FedEx pilot will know who the Capt is, and how to get the request to him. Hope this is informative, even if it doesn't help your cause.

The Captain's approval is the number one priority if there is an equipment change and they do the rack and stack for a lower number of seats. I had a guy tell me he got bumped trying to go home and they had an equipment change (10 to 11). The ironing board guy was on a personal Jumpseat headed out on vacation and didn't give up even after being asked. Multiple guys got left behind but the vacation/personal guy went.
...and no, they didn't bring this to the attention of the captain...I asked him.
