I don't know BM. Never even met him. But based on the last year of reading his emails and observing the changes at least in the Memphis base, I have arrived at two possible conclusions. 1. He has lost any real visibility into the daily operations of the average line pilot at FedEx and is making well intentioned but poorly conceived decisions based on an unrealistic perception of what needs to improve in operations, or 2. He is a horrible apologist for some higher level of management that is dictating large and small changes that have done nothing to improve efficiency in ops, and have done quite a bit to increase animosity between management and pilots. Both are counterproductive to the company as a whole. Both point to a guy who is in over his head. Bless his heart, but I am confident things won't improve until he lets someone else take a shot. Or, he actually aggressively engages at a personal level with a broad spectrum of line pilots to really hear what is on the mind of the guys he's in charge of. Maybe he's doing that already, but not that I've heard. Does anyone engage with him in anyway other than email?

What it really boils down to is never trust a marshaller to clear the silhouette. I've set the brake many times to wait for them to drop their wands, look around and figure out where the tugs, dollies, loaders, fuel trucks, etc., are that need to be moved. That's what you get when you enlist aircraft cleaners to perform mechanics' jobs.

I don't disagree with you, but you're missing the point. They're not SMART enough to do these trivial things to aggravate us. These things happen because of three things: 1. Lack of Leadership. 2. Lack of integrity, and 3. Lack of knowledge---WM hasn't flown the line for over 15 years. How can he possibly know what will affect us and what won't? He and his minions are out of touch and are reactive to other departments, rather than being proactive......scheduling comes to mind

Resurrect Jack Lewis.......Abrasive? Sometimes. But, a straight shooter with the interests of the line pilot at heart. Say what you will about whomever, the bottom line is, the climate is beyond toxic and the head shed is to blame.

I think this is missing the point. When Jack left there was a reorg. There have been several more since. Each one has diminished the "office" of chief pilot. He is simply the toadie willing to accept extra money to be the go between EVP and the pilots. Jack reincarnated would either do the job exactly as BM or he would be gone.
