UPS Furlough Over

In addition to the unity on the OT/JA ban and COBRA assistance, we tried our version of 4a2b here. WE controlled the MOU however, not the company. The MOU offered the company about $135 Milion in concessions ranging from sicktime giveback to reduced schedules to voluntary leaves of absence. That amount was from a group of less than 2900 pilots. The company took the first few million prior to peak, and once they got through that they demanded even more to stop a furlough. We gave them more on a Friday, and they met us on the following Monday with a blind-side furlough and press release announcing it. They ended up saving around a little over $50 Million during the furlough...Too bad they didn't take what we offered up front.
Bottom line is that 4a2b wouldn't have saved our furloughees.

I think your opinion on 4a2b may be off base. Adjusted for calendar month, what guarantee and bid pack averages did you have during the furlough? 75 and 80?
Try 60 and see how your calculations work.
Keep in mind I am not debating your strength as a pilot group. You guys are clearly good at "manning up"

Gunter, I definitely think your 4a2b has a lot of merit. But we don't work for an airline. We don't trust the company to do something like this. They have never done anything in good faith to lead us to think otherwise.

I am considering what is good or bad for those being recalled and you make this all about YOU. YOU want to make sure everyone knows YOU have it the best.
Those out of the furlough zone, like you, often have trouble considering what it's like being in someone else's shoes.
Contrary to what you assume, I know life is often better for the UPS guys out of the furlough zone vs. FedEx in the same position. I also know that your lack of 4a2b might force the company to better manage manning. The verdict is out on that but it is a valid argument.
Telling everyone you're the man is childish.
If everyone wants this thread to only be about patting the IPA on the back, I am sorry I posted.

Patting myself on the back? You miss the point entirely. It's telling that you are amused as well.

It's not about who has it "best"...in every situation where a "yard stick" could be employed it's no contest who "has it best". FDX wins in every comparison OTHER than group unity. Furthermore, it's not IPA members patting themselves on the back, it's undeniable history, little more. If that makes you uncomfortable, I am by far and away the least of your problems.
Pfffft...did you really say:
"If everyone wants this thread to only be about patting the IPA on the back, I am sorry I posted."
Out loud on the Fred adoration website? Really? Out loud?
But then to out do yourself and say:
"Those out of the furlough zone, like you, often have trouble considering what it's like being in someone else's shoes."
Out loud to a guy who spent eight (8) years on furlough from an ALPA carrier, given NO support whatsoever in the shadow of what IPA did for OUR furloughees and GLADLY paid an assessment to cover our furloughee's medical costs? What have YOU ever given the junior on YOUR list other than bumper sticker platitudes sport? SAYING how much you'd give means nothing...how many picket lines have YOU honored at a cost to YOU? How many dues assessments have YOU made to those junior to YOU? Hmmm?
I thought so. Talk is cheap.
Well done. You win self-deluded dolt of the month award....congratulations. If you represent your group I hope we get a CBA first. I fear you'll be one of the guys on this board rationalizing PBS or some other concession. Enjoy your hat.

The last paragraph in my post is actually the important part...It is the inevitable conclusion. The company didn't want money from givebacks (although they took plenty)...They wanted to get through that first peak without a JA/OT ban until they were in a position to furlough pilots in the new year. Everyone else in the company (except ACP's) took hits in the manning department, and come Hell or high water, the pilots were going to take hits too. We can calculate what the bid packs were worth during the furlough...but UPS had already decided they WERE going to furlough regardless. We met their MOU goals, they moved the goal line, and when we were ready to kick they yanked the ball away and walked off the field.

In my mind I think you would have to be nuts to leave Delta after 6.5 years and to come to this place. Just me though.
