BYOB, it's truly amazing to read a professional pilot being so manipulated by a blog. I would not trust this source for the real gouge on what an opportunity looks like in this industry. Unfortunately, these blogs can be a cesspool of hate and discontent and are truly a poor source for career advice.

Good luck with that regional thing. Hope it works out for you.

UPS management pilot ranks are filled with three types. First are the scabs hired early on in 1988-90 or so. Enough said about them. Next are the amateur pilot types hired out of Purdue. Horrendously under qualified and inexperienced but made left seat in a few years. Lastly are the ones hired in 2005-07 timeframe. Many were furloughed legacy pilots who were troughing in the Guard/Reserves. They went from part time work to instant capt pay. The lesser of the three evils, and they are grateful for the paycheck.

The whole setup sucks. It will be interesting to see this next contract because most of us are fed up. Funny how the number furloughed is in the ballpark of the number of managers we have. It stinks to high heaven and the lack of respect for the management pilot position is obvious.

this I can agree with.

these poor pseudo captains can not be so delusional as to think they are respected.

I was hired into management in the early years. There were some very good ones hired then. Most have since retired. Especially good ones on the A300.

I interviewed for an internship to work into the mgt pilot program in the early '90's. As a college kid it took me about one day of research to realize that I wanted no part of what was taking place there.

Are you smarter than a 22 year-old?

There are a couple of good ones on the 747, maybe one on the MD-11 and 75/76. And one or two on the A-300. That is all that's left from the original 1988 group of FQS.

A scab is someone who takes your job, not someone who gets a job when there is no job action occurring.

There were many excellent people hired in '88 into management. Some were lousy airmen. There were also many line pilots hired in '88. Some were also lousy airmen.
