Hey y'all, I saw this job posted on the UPS website and I can't make heads or tails of it.
Jobs and careers at United Parcel Service
Wouldn't UPS prefer to promote from within for this position? It only makes more sense to me (5 years 135 and 10 years 121) that instructor positions come from within the company, idea being that line pilots are familiar with the operations/culture of a company.
What do I know... I'm just a line flying regional pilot.
Also, what is a NURP that you all speak of? Doesn't sound like they are held in very high regard from the rank and file.
Thanks.

Not a single UPS line captain has ever taken a management position. They've targeted junior FOs, but very few even consider it. It's instant left seat pay, but once you cross you can never return to the line.

Seinfeld, thanks for the info. I'll skip applying for the listed position. I really want to fly for UPS, but not at the chance of not having the respect of fellow pilots. I'd rather stay at the regional level than walk around not being respected.
Thanks for the NURP reference.

Well, I really want to get back to flying boxes. Hauling people around isn't all it's cracked up to be. FedEx wouldn't be so bad, except I didn't go to the Air Force Academy, I didn't fly fighters, and I don't have a master degree from a military war college, so that pretty much means they won't even look in my general direction. ;-P

Neither is hauling boxes and I've done both. If you're intent on the boxes, then I recommend you look at Atlas. They have much more interesting flying and you might upgrade someday.
