The so called experts here with their predictions make me laugh. Why are we even entertaining the thought of PBS at UPS? 99.9 precent of those that filled out the survey said no F&^% way. There will be a strike before that POS is shoved down our throat. How about we let the negotiating team handle this one fellas? In the interim you can show your support for the union leadership and negotiating committee by attending anyone of the GMM! Even if you think its a waste of time you can still show up and let them know you support them.

I am not sure anyone has predicted PBS at UPS or at FDX in this thread. One guy said if ALPA agrees to it you would be screwed. I hardly call that a prediction. The rest of the PBS comments seem to be RLA discussions.

For the record IMHO any contract that include some 3% raises would likely pass at FDX; the one exception would be one that included PBS. Our vacation system is too important and everyone realizes we have the most control of our schedules in the industry. If our MEC submitted a PBS contract for vote they would be immediately recalled.

Then, they would send a supervisor (manager) along with each of the seasonal guys to "help" while those cars stayed out delivering for about 4 hours later than the other guys. I was in college and had a lot to learn about the concept of labor unions, but what UPS was doing was a clear work-around to hiring full-time union drivers, and paying properly for overtime. Unethical? Yes. But, not against their contract. Of course, the supervisors were hated and disrespected on the line. I feel that what you guys post on here, is what the drivers also have to deal with. I was able to see the deep divide between labor and management, and the lack of respect for each other (on the package car line), first hand.
I couldn't agree more. I worked for UPS unloading semis, splitting belts, and loading package cars for two years while furloughed from Comair. I saw management everyday doing union jobs. Coming from an airline, this drove me crazy but for the first year I wasn't part of the union so, I couldn't do much. By the time my year was up, it still bothered me but still couldn't do much about it because I had learned the boxes still had to be moved. So management had to do the work in areas the center was short at. However, I will say that pilots are different in that, the center couldn't get people to come work at 2am for $7.50/hr. The company has/had furloughed pilots and management doesn't need to do work because there are people willing to do the job. That is very much unethical. But, again, I will second that managers all throughout the company do union jobs. I still go back every peak season to just help out and hopefully make myself look appealing when UPS does start to interview and it still hasn't changed. Managers, loading cars, working as clerks, driving, delivering, and pretty much every job in the center.

Most control of our schedules in the industry at FDX? I wish, but not by a long shot (disapproved for insufficient reserves, earlier time stamp, lack of transparency, unsat secondary line system, inflexible reserve scheduling, dealing with outdated and cumbersome VIPS software for trades/drops/adds etc, the wolf pack...). My previous carrier had scheduling control and QOL light years ahead of what we have at FDX.

Otherwise I agree FDXLAG,

Best vacation in the industry - I think so too.

PBS in a TA equals immediate MEC recall - I also agree (but they won't let that happen).

...don't mean to derail the UPS thread, as we are stoked to see all UPS furloughees back on property.

No worries, we are just as stoked to see you guys are as adamantly opposed to PBS as we are - particularly because you guys will probably finish your negotiations first ;-)

Post forwarded to UPS HR. Comair, 2 -years working in hub. We can figure it out. Blackbox, no worries, you will not get an interview. Appreciate enough info so we know who not to hire.

Ha. As if HR would even listen to you. Why bust a guy like that? Karma is a fickle thing.

You don't know it but he's twice the man you are. Keep posting. It's fair warning what kind of scum they'll have to work with if they apply.
