FAA "highly encouraged" UPS to not hire fighter and RJ pilots as new hires in the MD-11 back in 2006-07 timeframe. That group had a lot of guys from Cathay, Atlas, and C-17/Tanker backgrounds.

It's a whole new mindset in Atlanta. We have a model of mgt pilots that's unique to UPS. No other airline operates this way. No other mgt group in the company does union work. There are plenty of forces at play to see the end of this model. It's expensive, inefficient, and UPS would trade it for PBS in a second. PBS at UPS is a no-go item, but if ALPA agrees to it at FedEx we may be screwed.
There is a reason the last furloughees have been recalled so quickly. I haven't any clue why that is, but it is odd.

Why? The only way we'll get PBS is if we're dumb enough to vote it in or if we were in bankruptcy and it's imposed by a judge. That's it.
As to voting it in, there are enough of us that had it at other airlines that would scream loudly if it were TAed.
Look at what a disaster our trip trade system is and imagine PBS.
