Again, a thread that started out as an announcement of good news, the end of the UPS furlough, has broken down to the all too familiar FedEx vs. UPS bs. Here's my take, but I'm a senior captain at UPS so take this FWIW.
*The money ain't bad.
*I fly good equipment (the 767).
*I get decent schedules but the trips can be tough. I usually just fly one 11 to 13 day int'l trip every 28 days, and it's almost always my first choice bid line.
*I like 99% of the guys I fly with. I like 1% of our management.
So does UPS suck? Sometimes. What job doesn't? I'll bet even FedEx sucks sometimes.

oldfr8dog,
I tend to disagree with your statement: "Again, a thread that started out as an announcement of good news, the end of the UPS furlough, has broken down to the all too familiar FedEx vs. UPS bs. Here's my take, but I'm a senior captain at UPS so take this FWIW."
The fact is that with the exception only one or two ill-advised FedEx pilots, virtually every other FedEx guy was very happy with and supportive of the recalls, and were glad, not only for the guys recalled, but for the IPA welcoming their brothers and sisters back. At least that's how I read this thread.
As well, most everyone would agree with all of your bullet points, as seen from your perspective, and I'd suspect the really senior FedEx guys would say exactly the same thing, except their opinion of management might be somewhat greater than 1%, being that a lot of management guys at FedEx are union brothers/sisters (although some don't act it.)

These days the MD in ANC is among the better deals for commuters, as evidenced by the number of SDF based guys who used to thumb their noses at ANC yet now keep bidding up, along with ONT guys. In particular SDF MD guys are tired of SWA schedules on a long haul widebody doing base lines to domestic cities dealing with Ft. Fumble all the time.
As a mid/lower seniority guy I can easily work two sometimes one trip a month. Yes it's gone downhill from the salad days, but Max Profit is in charge. These days I'm happy not moving backward each bid.
Beats the nonscheds....for now.

Yeah...that's this week's rumor, largely spread by maintenance.
Along with that one is an ONT MD base, moving the ANC SIM to SDF, that we've already purchased 4 ANA -400's and may buy 9 more, that there will be an official (not NURP) SDF -400 base, that there will be an ANC Z base, that MIA will close, and that ANC will close altogether and that UPS is going to spin off the entire airline and that UPS is going after TNT again.
Some of the same "in-the know" braintrusts said UPS would NOT recall the furloughees until contract settled under ANY circumstances.
Pfffft...you do know it's contract time, right?

For those of us who are going to apply no matter what you guys put on here, has anyone heard any possible dates, numbers, applying thru ups careers website or switching to an outside site like it seems almost every major has? As an educated guess, you'd think they would like to start getting new guys in class no latter than September in order to have a few fresh reserves to beat up on starting late November. I have my few connections but 3 out of 4 didn't even know they had recalled the last few guys. Thanks for any positive info anybody has!
As for the rest of you, you should hope I don't fly with you as an FO one day because one thing I don't put up with no matter how senior someone is, is stupidity and complaining. Didn't put up with it as a new hire regional FO, and took some heat for it, but low and behold chief pilot always had my back. If you don't like it go somewhere else and let me move up a number. I always support drinking, smoking and unhealthy behavior in anyone senior to me!!!!!!!
