This is what he said, so I'm still giving him credit for pointing out what the original intent of being able to re-gain your OTP status was for.
Yes, "OTP recycling" is a real thing, but whether it's good or evil depends on how it's used. If I have 14 hours of OTP, and pick up a VCP trip for 20 hours (yes, you can go +6), and subsequently my family plans change, I can drop the trip and "re-use" my original 14 hours of OTP.

It shouldn't but you miss the point he made. You use your OTP and when you tell your spouse that you picked up a trip, they remind you that you need those days off. You drop the trip and you go back into OTP for the original trip. Then you find a different trip that you can actually fly and you are done with OTP. I don't have a problem with that.
The problem becomes when guys figure out how to drop a trip, have a buddy pick it up and then they take it from their bud. Or they pick up OTP, drop it and immediately pick up the same trip. That's the real issue and the "blank check" that you reference.

Yeah but the OTP makes it easier for the scheduler to hide the decline in climate gate terms.

Instantaneous trading would solve the problem. OTP would go away. I'm ok with that because schedulers would no longer be directly involved in trip trading(can't corrupt the computer) and how often do you get OTP anyway? Nothing is perfect but getting instantaneous trading would solve a lot of problems.

when you had it was it a lot or only 10-20 hrs? Also, while you had it, did you clear your schedule and max out vips each day? If you have a few buds checking also and you get a quick text, you're in. I'm not saying that is or isn't happening, but I would say you can be successful without it.
