I echo'd AFW and Jethro above because they're SPOT ON!

The obvious: this problem is limited to the MEM MD11.

The charter criminals number around 4-6 for each seat.

This has been going on a very long time -- it's not a recent event. Years.

The charter criminals calendar block. PERIOD.

Charter criminals use bots. PERIOD. Don't let anyone tell you on an anonymous forum, in person, or in front of their mother that they "hawk open time relentlessly" -- they use bots, plain and simple. If asked in front of mgmt or a court of law under subpoena their answer will differ.

Don't be naive; if we have BidX Pro and Fx Cal and the amazing and extremely helpful things that those programs do for us then it's not an extension AT ALL to have a program and/or a script on multiple devices, controlled from anywhere in the world on your smartphone, that can be used to gain advantage over other guys that are playing fairly that cannot or may not be detected by the company.
Well said & nice job magenta raising the issue with the union.

I recommended everyone contact your block reps, negotiating committee & pro standards. This can stop w/ collective effort. I've raised the issue multiple times, have you? An email or phone call only takes a few minutes of your time.

I have no problem with junior guys getting good deals. I have a problem when senior, junior, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, male, female, heterosexual, homosexual, or whatever else is stepping on the next union brother/sister with unavailable software (BOT), set up deals, OTP recycling, or whatever tactics (shady/illegal) they employ to have advantages over the rest. This is against the ALPA Code.
I do not recommend anybody to handle this issue by themselves, but I do advocate this message be kept alive and apply pressure to the union to uphold what they supposedly stand for. They have the resources (check my paycheck deductions) to accomplish this task in a fair and legal manner.
Please write to you block rep explaining your concern about this situation.

“Dear ____

I am writing to you today with great concern about our union’s credibility and it’s perceived inability to enforce the ALPA Code of Ethics. Over the years, there have been consistent irregularities in the Open Time process. These irregularities create a divide within the ranks and effects the livelihoods of the majority. There are many theories on what causes these irregularities, but I am requesting the union to put out an official statement on why there are these irregularities, and what is ALPA’s stance on the issue. It is time for transparency and leadership. Please have an official statement made available to the crew force by the 28th of February 2014.

Fraternally,

So it seems like the only way someone could do this is either with a bot program that automatically picked up charters, or if the people who released the charter (not regular crew schedules, but futures or whomever built them) called someone right before the release, told them the info and said--press the button now. Or did it for them. Seems like that would be incredibly easy to trace, with a track record of years. Makes you wonder with the freeze--unfreeze thing going on. If it was happening in my airplane, I'd call and ask who exactly was responsible for releasing the trip. Then I'd call that person and ask when they were going to release, and if so, were they going to make sure that person XX was getting the trip as usual. And see what their response was. I think if that scheduler was getting called on it a lot, they might realize their job was in jeopardy. That is, if that's what was going on.

For those who have contacted the union, what was the response? Did the union feel like this is an issue to investigate or were they not concerned with it?

Yes you would think this would be easily traceable. What I have seen in the last few months with frozen trips is

1) either the unfreeze & fill instantly which hints of complicity
Or
2) relatively quick processing of open time with normal trips but the minute a charter/really good extra hits (not a frozen trip) the OT processing will stop for sometimes over an hour. Which says to me I'm holding this trip till my buddy can put in an OTP request jump the line and time stamp you..maybe he's unavailable, flying etc. I have on more than one occasion heard the excuse the scheduler went to the restroom/on break and will get to it when he gets back

Option 1 is hard to solve as it's hard to prove, option 2 is solved with real time trip trading

Only thing I've heard from my block rep is we are looking at real time trip trading with this contract, they are very cryptic about specifics. Nothing on the discipline front & no reply from the Negotiating committee.

We can only effect change with an influx of emails, once again I recommend all take the 5 mins and write their block reps

I had a guy on the 11 tell me that some bot programs can actually change the time stamp to appear that it was submitted first. Not sure if I believe that just passing on the info.

No offense brother but I would rather everyone email their reps rather then getting your individual answers from others. The more emails = more pressure and hopefully an official union statement, which would squash all this APC nonsense. I want a statement, so we can move on to negotiating a industry leading contract. This nonsense has gone on too long, and it's time to be taken seriously. I've provided a sample email everyone is more than welcome to copy paste it.

For what it's worth I believe our union has been doing a tremendous job with other matters and they need to be commended for this.
