With the exit of many CGN FO's coming up, I would hope we have to hire into CGN, but with the low utilization of reserves in Memphis I see the possibility of MEM 757 lines being built with double DH's to CGN to operate the trips to avoid hiring in the near term.

On a side note, does the 767 have a bunk or crew rest facility? (and I don't mean the lav in the cockpit).

Fdx 767 has a can that is a crew rest facility which is only required for block over 12. If it's a three man crew no rest facility is required. You "rest" in the cockpit on a JS.

Can you quote me the FAR that allows this?

Hi Max, start out by going to FAA Part 121.483 (a) and 485 (a).
Then go to AC 117-1 for definitions to Class 1,2 and 3 Rest facilities.
We technically don't have Class 2 rest facilities as we have no "cabin".
It's also mentioned in our CBA, Sec 12.D.3.b and 12.D.8.b.
Cheers,
fbh

iaw AC117-1 the class 3 rest facilities must be approved by the PO[I]. Maybe the POI will have as much diligence enforcing this as he does FAA Order 8900.1 governing sick leave, where the company is in clear violation of that FAA order.

I can remember shortly after FDX announced the 767 purchase, seeing a diagram showing a shipping container (outside the cockpit) with bunks in it. It wasn't clear to me how you might control the temperature? Is there any sort of galley?

Management said that was how UPS ordered their airplanes. They had seen the UPS version and liked it. I haven't heard that we've flown our 767 over 8 hours yet. Has anyone actually seen this alleged Crew Rest Container?

It seems like the size might fit well for EWR - Europe (to some of our "thinner" cities)? Does anyone know if we plan on using it long range?

In the old days PanAm used to fly A310's from JFK-Europe, I was surprised that FDX never did that. About once a month one of them would have to stop in Gander for gas on the way back

We already use this type of container on the 11 for animal charters that require handlers in the back.

FBH - I know the rules on times. My point was where in FAR's is it allowed that the "crew rest" will be in a cockpit jumpseat? The company has tried to pull this before when sending a MD10-30 to CDG and having the courier seats broken (MEL'd as do not occupy) and no futon on board!

Ding, Ding, Ding. He is asleep at the wheel so I'm not very hopeful.
