Its a long story and I'll hold off on personal opinions. I'm just going to give the facts:
- Confirmed that at least 3 767-200s are being put into storage. I'm going to guess it will be 762CX, 763CX, and 791AX as they are the non-ETOPS planes. 763CX is in some stage of a C-check, so that is either money wasted or money saved; depends on how you look at it.
- DHL America is reevaluating one of the 757s in the system. I can only assume this is in response to the 737s coming on at Southern. Details I've been told are vague.
- Pilot furloughs have been announced but it should be lessoned now that 117 is in effect and the combi trips now have a few more layovers for crews.
Based on what I'm hearing and my observation, it might look like this:
316CM will probably be left open for one off charters and probably end up going back to Bahrain, to cover 319CM when it needs another check. 761CX and 312AA will be the two used 767-200s. One will probably cover all the flying over the next few months that ATI has and the other will sit spare for it.
This basically equates to 1 767-300 (319CM) and 1 767-200 (761CX or 312AA) as the only planes with constant work, in addition to the 3 757Fs (4 depending on what DHL does) and 3 757Cs flying work.

ATI went from three 767s in Bahrain to one 767 as of January 01. They will go down to zero by March 01.
Guantanamo runs reduced from two to one as of January 01. By April 01, that contract is completely gone.
More furloughs seem inevitable.
ATI currently has 7 B767. By April 01, unless they get something else going, they will have steady work for zero 767s.
Epic fail or end game strategy?

Hard to say. In a lot of ways I see the writing on the wall in that it will be pre-merger Cappy (3-4 757Fs only) with ATI as the name. Maybe they will keep the 757C work or sell it off in a blaze of glory, who knows.
But in some ways I see the airline with 1 767-300 and 1 767-200 available for work along with the combi flying kept. It will just be mostly pre-merger Cappy pilots still on property with CBA violation court cases for years to come. Isn't the final numbers something like 0% of the Cappy guys getting furloughed and 100% ATI guys after all the changes? So either way, it seems like the Cappy crews are ultimately going to win

ATI has a sales/marketing department. Why don't they get new work? There's more than enough intl. widebody freight hauling out there to go around.
I know it's easier said than done, but as far as I know, mgmt hasn't landed a contract for new work in years.

That's Combi work and is safe. ATI will be doing that work till the Military powers that be don't us anymore. The thing is they don't have an aircraft that can do that mission (mil pax, their dependents and freight) and do it as cheaply as we can.

It's not just ATI that is bleeding in the freight business...747 charter rates are well below where they were 2 years ago, so I guess all fleet types are in the same boat...Most CMI operations want to replace 747's with 777 because the volume of need lift has decreased...logistics has now caught up with demand so the need to move such items over the pacific is now cost compliant with ships...Unless an airline has cash on hand or big borrowing pockets the future will have challenges.

My bet is when SAI get's the 737's going, DHL will have no need for ATI's 757 freighters. More furloughs.
