My guess is the Capt was assigned by the LCA scheduler when the trip was left "available" during th View/Add & Secondary Line process.

Additionally, the FO who just picked it up probably realized he wasn't going to have to fly it, once the IOE assignment appeared in the Trip Notes.

Of course, he isn't bumped until the IOE is confirmed --- 1 to 2 days prior.

Unfortunately, the FO "Pick Up" may still "count" in terms of the Disputed Pairing Process. --- and that hurts us all in many ways in the long run!
Sadly, this is probably true. Even worse, is what kind of training do you think the IOE student will get when he's hanging in the straps because of fatigue?? How safe is it for the company to assign a pairing like this for training??? I realize the company looks at disputed pairings as a "political tool", but for crissakes, to put an LCA on this trip with a student is nothing but unsound, and unsafe.

Why would you think that Management cares what IOE trips look like (except for regulatory requirements; maybe an ocean crossing on an Intl. airplane)?

My first leg of MD-11 f/o IOE was OAK-SFO ... First day of MD-11 Capt. IOE was KIX-ICN-CAN-SHA, we arrived at SHA and the new approaches were not in the FMC database. Yeah ... that's a good learning experience

They put someone's rear end in the seat for a revenue leg ... that's all that matters?

They are just preparing the newbies for what life will be like with PiBS. No need for SIG/PSIT anymore. How to Boil a bullfrog...

What self punishment. Wow. And unfortunately, we will all be punished in the future by his volunteering for that pain.

Just curious, why are some of the legs (city pairs) shown in orange in the Trip Recap.

IIRC, those legs are scheduled to 121 Supplemental rules.

The 75 hasn't been to DTW enough to qualify it for Domestic Ops yet. I think it 's 2 or 3 months.

Not perfect, but only 3 of these 12 slots were flown voluntarily

...and the SIG was able to get these sequences safely revised in Jan, and thereby no longer disputed
