Default FedEx Retiree Health Care

Just got our 2014 Health Care Enrollment information for FedEx Retiree's. My wife is under age 65 so she is still enrolled in the FedEx program. Her premium for Medical, Dental, and Vision has increased 23% for next year! Same plans, same levels of coverage. Also, the literature I received said that we could change Medical and Dental plans within the pre-65 retiree system. I was under the impression that once you selected a level of coverage, you had to remain with that level until reaching age 65. Just went back over my notes from the ALPA retirement brief and I was wrong on that one.

But the level of increase is less than the forecast increase so therefore consider yourself as having save $2500 Period.

Is your wife employed by FDX or does the preMedicare retiree program continue covering her? I guess the preMedicare program rates are going to soar. No real reason to leave before 65.

The next TA could be worse in some areas so it may make sense to some to retire under the current TA.

I'm hoping this TA is ratified in the next 18 months (I can hope?). When will the "next TA" after that be?

Wife does not work for FedEx. She is allowed to continue coverage with FedEx after I retired until she enrolls in Medicare at age 65. We were very happy with the coverage she had so we just continued it when I retired. Taking a long hard look at the high deductible option with Tricare Standard as a supplement. We only have until 19 November to make a choice so I guess it is time to get to work looking at all of our options.

No offense but is that not what the 25k VEBA payment was for in the last contract for everyone over 53.

Yep!!

And it should be a "use it or lose it"

Each year you stay past 65 you give $5k back and it gets thrown back into the General VEBA Fund for all

It's a simple matter of transparency, truthfulness and fairness

An item we should "self correct" in the next contract
