Default FDX Training Positions

I recently heard FedEx employs some pilots in training type positions, and other non line-pilot flying positions. What's the background on this? Is it similar to the UPS management pilot situation or is it a good thing? On that note, do they hire line pilots from that side or do people get stuck in positions like that? Thanks for any info you may have!

Fedex does hire what are called, "professional Instructors". They are usually hired on a three year contract, and once the contract expires, they can apply for a line-pilot position-----if the company is hiring at that time. If there is no hiring at that point, you can continue on in your capacity as an instructor. As a "pro", you will be required to go through the training syllabus, up to and including your type ride in the sim. After that, you will go through a period of getting checked out to instruct different phases of training. Ground, Procedures, and Maneuvers. Not sure how long the process takes to get checked out, but you could figure on at least a year before you would be entirely qualified to teach all phases.

I'm sure somebody has the link to look for available postings for these positions, so be patient

Good luck!
