FDX- Vanguard 401K Fees
#3
I ain't no lawyer, but I love to quote the lawyer's answer: "It depends." Should be listed in the prospectus for each fund you hold. Each fund has different % rates--index funds are usually lowest.

At-cost investing
Every mutual fund has a price tag—the expense ratio. Our average annual fund expenses are 0.19%, compared with the industry average of 1.11%.
At Vanguard, we manage our funds at cost—they cost you what they cost us to run them.
How Vanguard keeps your costs low
No sales loads
No 12b-1 distribution or marketing fees
No commissions
No account service fees†
(† No fees if you sign up to receive statements and other important documents electronically or if you're a Voyager, Voyager Select, or Flagship client. Otherwise, a $20 fee applies to each fund in an account with a balance of less than $10,000.)

My question was worded poorly
I was wondering if Vanguard has hidden fees or administrative cost that I'm not aware of?
Each fund list an expense ratio and that's easy to find on the Vanguard web-site. (Vanguard does have low expense ratio compared to other Companies). It's always bothered me that they don't total up a personal expense ratio for me at the end of the year. It's like a bill that I don't know how much I paid.
I'm trying to figure out if the expense ratio is the only way Vanguard gets paid.

For a 401k, yes. For taxable investments, they'll charge an annual fee for low acct balances. Vanguard has the lowest expense ratios in the business, which is why I use them for my non-employer sponsored retirement accts.

The only other expense you might be incurring is perhaps some sort of administrative fee that contractually your pilot group might have to pay in order to cover the administrative expenses of your 401K. It might be a percentage of assets or a fix fee of some sort. At some airlines, the participants cover it. At others, the company picks up the tab. If you're ALPA, your council should have a Retirement and Insurance representative. Call him/her and ask. They'll know.
