FedEx Interview/New Hire Class

I don't believe that's so ... (Aaron's being humble again)
If any of you guys that don't know Albie, I highly recommend that you use this "Interview Prep" service if you're lucky enough to get called for an airline interview anywhere ... I'd send my son to him

Shipping has slowed, BLG's are down, and retirements are happening but guys are hanging on till the last month and have Fred pay for their medical care till you eat your cake in AOC. I expect things to pick up (like always during peak) but the company will just optimize/draft/volunteer more to cover the nominal increase in flying hours in Dec.
IMHO, we're fat on bodies and low on trips so I expect no hiring -- even to replace those retiring. Right now if you're in MEM on reserve you don't get called much, if at all and ANYTIME you can drop R days in MEM that's yet another positive sign of the apocalypse. There is NOTHING in open time, guys are racing to get a EWR trip (yet another apocalyptic indicator), and only 3-4 of the 6 new electronic crew flight boards are filled with trips on them nightly. After peak, we'll probably approach 4A2B BLG levels and then the company will come to the negotiating table and talk up a "woe is me" line about how we're not making any $$$$.
Sorry for outlook guys but dat's how I seez it panning out here in the next few months through my black onyx crystal ball.

Huck,
Do you know approx how many bodies you gained by losing the last of the 3-seaters ? If you compare that to mandatory age retirements, it might give a clearer picture on how long the flat hiring trend will last....I hope not long for all.

BG

The company didn't park the DC-10s earlier because we were expanding and needed the lift. They did not want to do it during a big hiring cycle, see lift above. When a convenient downturn made it easier to retire the airplanes and leave pilots waiting for training, they pulled the trigger.
This means the additional overage caused by parking DC-10s, and 727s, at the most inopportune time was management's fault. That's how they planned and executed it.
Any claim by them that we need to suck it up because they (we) are being overtaken by current events is BS. Our management is smarter than that and most of us know it.
