As metioned, it's a wives thread.

But I would agree with the way men dress. When you see couples out together, USUALLY the women are dressed well, USUALLY. But that's because women are self conscious/insecure and can't STAND to be the worst dressed women in the room. Meanwhile, the men usually dress like slobs.

Why do the girlfriends/wives put up with it? It's like the guys that put up with women porking out and getting fat. Or the pussified males that put up with a wife that becomes uber controlling.

This is a correct statement, mostly. Sadly, "off duty" many Americans are slobs. Shirts untucked, dirty sneakers, overweight (reflecting personality/attitude/self esteem issues), etc. The children of these adults are not surprisingly, disasters.

Anyone who has lived overseas (I have), especially in latin america or Europe, can attest that most "off duty" adults go out in public nicely dressed, groomed, etc. Women more so then men however are more "kept up" then the men are.

Right or wrong I don't know. Yes, we all have a "right" to dress "comfortable" when not at work, but the definition of that is culture dependent. (In Afghanistan, women are completely covered up, so that is not necessarily desired either). Sadly, "comfortable" in USA means

Men: Blue Jeans, T-Shirt or untucked polo, and the whitest white sneakers you can find, usually with black socks.

Women: sweat pants, hair pulled back aka "gym look", sweatshirt with a duck on it or "best mom" on it, flip flops or sneakers. No makeup and almost-on-purpose "f you" expression on face. And/or head down looking at Iphone as she walks thru parking lot.

Another USA thing: see a hot woman in store/at Starbucks/etc and say hello or ask her if that book she is reading is interesting, and she activates an Amber Alert / calls Sex Offender Squad / dials 911. In Latin America ? same women is going to dinner with you the next day and the future is open to many possibilities.

Also, USA is leader in tatoos/skin graffiti. Nowhere in the world can you go to a supermarket line and the entire line has tatoos.

Yep, the perception of the "male predator". You don't even have to utter a word, just smile at one if they bother to make eye contact with you.

Never ceases to amaze me, I go out to restaurant to eat dinner at the bar, and the only seat open is next to two females, or between groups of females. I walk up and politely ask if the the seat is taken or if they are waiting on a friend, etc. I'm not just gonna be rude and plop right down on it without asking. If they say no, I sit down and get the automatic shields up/back slightly turned towards me as she continues to chat with her friend. Not like I was going to try to even bother talking, I just wanted to sit down and order a drink and dinner. Get over yourselves.

LNL, you bring up a good point. I generally agree with what is being said above. I was raised to always take care of how I look whether I'm going out on errands, or for a fancy dinner.

Obviously, sometimes it's not practical nor sensible to get dressed, groomed, and hair done upon order to go to the store for a forgotten dinner item. However, outside of rare exceptions, I can't stand dressing and looking sloppy. It just doesn't make sense to me, and I would say I notice a difference in my demeanour and confidence when I am of well dressed, etc.

The way I see it, if the shoe fits, it's yours. So if you want the Turkish woman who takes pride in herself and cares about her appearance, you better at least be able to match her in that.
