Whale,
The 727 is a real piggy to stop. The brakes are just adequate and the thrust reversers shorten the landing roll by very little. It might not have been a BFD, but it was a fun video to watch and it seemed to impress the locals.
And by the way, speaking of KMDW, ever heard of Southwest Airlines Flight 1248?, and that was with a jet with a much improved braking system.

Stopping a FLUF however, is a challenge at MDW and as for WN 1248, yea, I was there that night waiting to depart and then went to my crash pad 2 blocks from the end of 31C.

Delta's 727-200s had the 40 flap setting, but we rarely used it. There was no need. Some carriers did install a metal plate on the flap quadrant to block settings over 30 degrees.

Hah! 727's land just fine, braking is awesome even on a packed snow runway - at least when it's light loaded. Landed them plenty of times in blizzards at BTV, MHT, PWM, etc and then turned off early. Piece of cake in the old gal. Take off? Now that's a different story.

Thank you, Tom. I think ours must have been plated, because the more I think about it, I never did a flaps 40 landing in a -200. It may have been removed for this flight. I remember the throttles were "offset" to one side as there was no fourth engine.

Really? Well with +5000 hours as a B727 CA, most at MDW, stopping a 727 is not a big deal. All around the best built Boeing ever.
