New Aircraft Rumor at UPS

It definitely took boeing several weeks to modify their sim in SEA, it's more than just a software swap.

The USPS Contract has NOT been decided on. So just slow down everyone. UPS doesn't have 30%. They still have their 2% and FDX still owns their 90%.
The Contract does not expire until Sept. 2013. The EARLIEST the USPS and the Govt. will decide on the new % is May or June.
So no New Aircraft or Sims until the Summer. And that's IF UPS gets anything. Fred is very good at the back room deals being done on K street in DC.
I predict UPS 20%, FDX 70%, the rest to everyone else.

For what it is worth I flew with one of the "village idiots" recently and he freely spewed about many subjects one of which was the USPS contract.
Word is supposed to come out in February. Possibilities include ups getting 0, 30, 70 or 100%. Interesting numbers, I had to ask what he thought, highly unlikely that we get it all, also unlikely we get none, he predicts 30%. The 30/70 split has something to do with route structure, he babbled on about some crap trying to explain and then I tuned him out and went on auto-nod for the rest of the flight.
Apparently Fred's bid was much lower than expected just to keep the contract. Like I said take it for what it is worth, his lips were moving and he is ups management.

With Fred spending Hundreds of Millions on New Aircraft recently and into the future, FDX will Bid under Costs for the Contract. And knowing the Contract will be renewed multiple times for Decades. Fred will be very aggressive. UPS will end up with the crumbs.

No doubt union pilots at UPS got the shaft. But those numbers don't tell the whole story. The first set of numbers are from about two weeks after they raised the retirement age. Then to really make matters worse, UPS decides to retire three 3-man aircraft types, that allowed all those over 60 guys to come back. UPS also got FOs to fly IRO, closed regional hubs, and consolidated flights by buying bigger aircraft, opened ANC, ... I'm sure I forgot something but I'm tired but the last five years have sucked!

Well, from a UPS perspective, if they get a marginal increase in postal volume then great some extra revenue. If they get it all, even more. If they get none, or minimal, well at least they knocked bid prices down to make FDX undercut and potentially operate at a loss... so it (minutely) weakens your main competitor. They don't really lose at all.

And you sir are what's wrong with the mindset of todays pilots. You do realize UPS has 40 plus furloughed pilots while having over 100+ mgt pilots non union flying? Doing more to help out while fellow pilots are without doesn't make you a scab but it puts you darn close......
Ps.... Just read some of the threads you started to gauge who you are. I hope all is back on track getting you where you want to be...... Sounds like a long journey but we still need not jump and hurt others to gain slight momentarily gains.....

Don't worry about that guy. He doesn't have a medical and has to get a shrink to approve him before he can. He has "issues".
