I’ve always thought the pay provisions based upon size of aircraft were antiquated based upon our large wide body fleet, and the fact that some of the most difficult flying is actually performed by the narrow body fleet (multiple night hub turns through remote cities). Pay rates should be adjusted for longevity, FO/CAPT seat, and international flying (which should be a much bigger premium for the many tolls it takes on the pilots: circadian rhythm disruption, missed family events, increase illnesses, dealing with foreign controllers, etc). The MEC should try to work out an equitable solution that doesn’t pit one pilot group against the other.

Look, lets face it. The narrowbodies are really nothing more than feeders, for our real mainliners. They should be paid accordingly. If we paid on difficulty of flying...Some of the 209's would be the highest paying.
And, the sleep rooms should be reserved only for the heavy flyers. Narrowbody guys can sleep in the recliners.
Frankly, I can't believe that we all wear the same uniform.

I've been talking to, and referring, to those senior to me.
Those that have been upgrading to a higher seat or just going from year 1 towards 15 on the property get regular increases in pay in between contracts. Those with over 15 years only get a pay boost at contract time.
If, and I don't think this is happening, we were go to single pay rate at the expense of an across the board pay raise, it would not be fair to some of the membership.
Another thought - the average A300 CA took in the shorts during 4a2b to help keep everyone on the property. I don't think it would be good form to leave them out in the cold again.

International pilots have their circadian rhythm disrupted and miss family events???????
They also have better catering, nicer hotels, and longer layovers.
If you're senior enough to bid international, you're senior enough to bid day flying and to bid around family events. Let's not start advocating for more goodies for the top of the list. Let's just work to improve everyone's lot.

I agree all boats should rise. If premiums are to be negotiated, they should reflect the extra pain felt. Of course, if you think it should reflect where the revenue stream is coming from, that too is the international flying.

Not necessarily true. Doesn't work that way in LAX or ANC. Not all hotels overseas are nice. Your closet in your Germantown home is bigger than some of the rooms in Asia! How many times have you become sick from domestic catering or food in a U.S. hotel? Kind of difficult to make family events when trip is 13 days long...impossible to trade out.
