KCM
Today I attempted to use the KCM entry point in ATL. I was in uniform, with ID and was going to jumpseat on DL to MEM. The TSA agent asked me if i was "operating" a flight out of ATL. I told him I was jumpseating on DL and would be operating a FedEx flight out of MEM. He denied me access through the KCM entry. He and his supervisor said I had to be "operating" a flight out of ATL to use the entry.
That didn't sound right to me but I thought I'd throw the question out here to see if others have had the same experience. I called the ALPA office in MEM and they said, "call National." Too late today for that...

From the KCM web site: Crewmembers
Nothing in there about operating a flight.
Q: When can a crewmember use the KCM access point?
A: Crewmembers must be in uniform and have required identification to use the KCM access point. The crewmember’s airline also must participate in KCM in order to be eligible.

There's an ALPA app for iPhone (and Droid I assume), that has info on all the jumpseating rules for individual airlines and also has a KCM section. Great for 'educating' the occasional wayward gate or TSA agent if need be.

No, that is a big steaming pile of horse manure..!! If a pilot is active in the KCM database, who the hell cares whether he/she is D.H., J.S., or operating? I would have asked for names, ID numbers, etc. and reported this little fiasco. One thing I've noticed in the past six years, is that when it comes down to the TSA, there is NO S.O.P. They all make up their own little rules at each station. Good luck....

Not just the TSA. Nowadays, everybody is afraid of their own shadow, and when you challenge them, they quote "national security".
