Interesting, about a month ago I had a conversation with an MD pilot about a deviation bank myth. That pilot was also nice and helpful. I am glad he set me straight.

Good grief!

Hey 9ESOCCFI...Are you a futures scheduler?
Amen...I don't know why everyone is jumping his $hit. It's nice to have someone on the "inside" to help us all understand why I'm always getting "insufficent reserves!"

9ESOCCFI...thanks for joining the madness of APC. Please disregard the 12 angry men. Hopefully we'll see you on the other side in a few years.

Lost in all the moaning and beatching on this board is the fact that flying for Fedex is a freakin great job. Anyone in a 9-5, 5 days a week job would love to have it. I know I sure wouldn't trade for the 4 on, 4 off, 12 hour days a scheduler does.

Heard a conversation on the line one night.

"You pilots have it easy I'd love to have your job..."
"Become a pilot all it takes is time, money and to check the box that says qualified pilot on the application."

Ron Jeremy said the same thing...sort of...

is there a policy that empowers you to release a pilot from reserve? (other than the FARs & contract). i.e. in ANC MD11 there are really no one day trips (takes two duty days to go somewhere from ANC get crew rest & get back), and, on 777 I have seen no one day trips. Can you release a pilot on his last day or last two days based on the fact that the system form (pairings) don't include exist, or release mitigated that there are other pilots with less leveling and the potential for a 1-2 day trip on these fleets/bases are exceedingly rare?

I had a scheduler that admitted that there was absolutley nothing I could be legally assigned, but it was "policy" that she couldnt release me.

Olly,

ANC does have a 1 day trip possibility. MD11's divert to Fairbanks in the AM...reserve gets deadheaded up there to bring it back.

Same deal for 777. I know someone recently launched off RA to recover an airplane from BNA to MEM.

When I commuted I never called and asked to be released early but sometimes a scheduler would call and release me a few hours early to go home. Regardless if you think a trip is not going to fit your r-day footprint you have to stand your r-day footprint. Not saying you are specifically trying to do anything wrong etc. However I have listened to some guys *itch and *oan about not being released on their last day to go home early or being assigned a trip.

However lately I did have scheduling hit me for a trip while I was sick and on r-days. When I looked the trip should have gone to a guy with much lower leveling. I called the union and yes I was hit for the trip when I should not have been and Ros* was able to get me recredited for the trip.

I do believe there needs to be more transparency regarding scheduling.
