I figured the actual flying was going fine. The only thing was the paper alternate issue. My "its not going the best" comment was directed towards the expansion. I was told that the second new hire class this year was suppose to cover the added flying that was in the works which never did materialize.
What is the plans going forward with JAL? Is 744AX going to work back into the DHL operation while new work is generated or just sit around?

Hum.... thanks for the update. My tracking software picked up 744AX doing ABX90 CVG-ILN the other day making me think they were just parking it for now. Obviously CVG-ILN was a different tail. Maybe its one of the DHL birds going in for an early check or something now that 744AX is back in the system for the time being.

Don't really see that happening any time soon. ABX/1224 isn't going to take any additional concessions without a serious fight, and I sure don't see ATSG "giving" ABX's contract to ATI now or after the merger is complete. The possible exception is perhaps a desire to place all of "our" assets (combis excepted) into service in CVG, but I believe the likelihood of that to be remote at best. Very little to be gained by instigating a protracted battle here and now. IMHO.

ATSG has had plans to combine all three airlines for a long time. They will realize huge financial savings by eliminating overlapping funcitons and costs. Breaking 1224 and forcing concessions on ABX pilots is just icing on the cake. Of course, the steps have to be done in the correct order for obvious reasons.
The unions from all three companies received a complete briefing on the plans over a year ago. The ATI/CCIA portion is now all but complete so the announcement of the ATI/ABX phase will come out soon.
Yes, 1224 will struggle, but that will happen regardless of when the merger begins. The sooner ATSG starts the process, the sooner it will be finished. ATSG has no reason to wait. All the pieces are in place now.
