Some rumors floating around the inter webs.....
- Memphis will go to night sort only; Indy will be day sort only
- 3000 layoffs/buyouts in Memphis (about the same as 2004)
- 63 stations transferring from Express to Ground
- Express couriers will go to part time
- Ground gets all the 3rd day shipments starting January
- Office is getting separated from the herd, in anticipation of spinning it off/selling it.
- LOTS of cuts in middle management - stations going down to one manager

The majority of express couriers are PT right now. Only FT drivers are swing-drivers now, unless its a major city.
Ground is definitely getting the "express-saver" and pretty much any freight that's not P01/P02 sometime in near near future.

So cutting all day flying out of MEM and all night flying out if INDY is going to have no effect? My WAG is that is 30-35% of our flying.

If the day sort moves out of MEM, won't they loose their ability to flip flop our circadian rhythm, hence loosing ability to screw with our QOL and bodies. Being serious they loose their flexibility, by shift day and night sorts to separate hubs, don't they? Just separating hubs, they loose flexibility.
As far as Express being turned over to Ground.
Pretty much every Express ramp has Ground poaching freight.
When I think of Express being handed over to Ground, I think of No Jet in there. Just trucks... If there is a jet there Express handles it?

Ground will not be taking over Express. Ground doesn't even have the Home Delivery part of Ground in the same building in many places. Neither network is capable of absorbing the other. It seems like it would make sense to combine them, but if they really wanted that, they would have done it 14 or so years ago, when Ground was only a quarter or so the size it is today.
Now, some products that Express does may move to Ground accounts. When FedEx bought RPS, Express took over the RPSAir 2 day product. And when I say take over, they moved that part of those accounts to Express. Ground's transit times are so fast, it's why the Express domestic market has been slowly shifting to Ground. With the exception of coast-to-coast, almost everything is done in three or fewer days. If you had non-critical shipments, you could be in Kansas City, process orders on Monday and Tuesday, and have everything delivered by Friday. You'd save money on the shipment and the workforce.
