My guess is that there will be a major restructuring in what Express does in the lower 48. They offered buyouts earlier, and are planning to close a bunch of smaller locations, so the next level of whatever the lead-ins showed is what will happen next. Express is where the cost is, and it's going to get addressed. I'm not saying that Express is a lead weight by any means, just that the slow shift of domestic volume from Express to Ground will change how Express operates. Good luck to all.

CRJ 200's being flown by your regional carriers, sounds like a possibility.... but I sure hope that you do not lose any mainline flying

Default Big Express cost reductions

From the Q1 2012 Earnings Call Transcript on 18 Sep 12:

Certainly sounds like some big changes are heading our way. Might want to fasten your seat belts.

The following quotes are from Fred Smith:

"We have significant efforts under way to reduce cost in the Express segment, some of which we'll talk about today and all of which we'll talk about in detail at our Investors and Lenders Meeting on 9 and 10 of October, and we hope most of you can come to that meeting."

"So you'll see at the October 9 and 10 meeting, where we have a significant initiative under way in Express to take huge amounts of money out of the Express networks, reflecting what I just told you about."

Express is still the 800 lb Gorilla in terms of revenue engine at Fedex. My guess is continued major re-org combined with attrition of non-producing sites, sort facilities etc as mentioned in previous posts.

One of the things mentioned was that the Express Saver product would be shifted over to Ground.
