'Cuz that plan has worked so well for ALPA w/ age 65 and bankrupt airlines negotiating away their pensions.

In the end, the only thing that will really be on record is that we rolled over, lubed up and agreed to whatever we get.

The other option is to draw a line in the sand and actually fight for what we want - not join the other side just to have a role shaping what we don't want.

One other fairly important point, we're not bankrupt and we're still making a profit. We're just not making as much money as we normally do.

And remember, even with the 'reduced profits" we are still making more money than the Pax Carriers do when they are profitable!!!!

Lag. that was my point on the cost per car. Expected sales were discounted and only increased sales were divided by program costs. Your original post blamed the bureaucratic fees as causing the 24k tab per vehicle, bureaucratic fees are more overhead in nature of running the program, sending payments to dealers and paperwork,

Not the theoretical sales increase/program cost analysis which is a market guesstimate. When I traded in my car for the cash I could have held out a while but eventually would have had to buy a new one. Where was my purchase allocated as an increase or an expected purchase. Not too many people buying cars they don't need.

But, many traded in their old "gas guzzling polluter" for a new "more enviro friendly" one when their old vehicle was still reliable. Thus, ending up with a car payment they didn't need!

And, the part that sucks about this is - I can no longer find parts for my old farm truck - cuz the old trucks that were traded in had to go to the crusher instead of for used parts sales

Oh the "auto dismantle yards" (can't call them wrecking yards anymore) did ok. They got the vehicle free and could sell any parts, except the engine and transmission. After a set period anything that wasn't sold went to the crusher. So now I can go look at rusty parts but the good ones went to be recycled

Took many operable used cars out of the market and inflated used car prices.

Not true, the cash for clunkers cars were rendered inoperable an crushed, though I'm sure some parts were harvested, they weren't supposed to be.

Parts could be recycled - check this link 'Cash for clunkers': What happens to the old cars - CSMonitor.com
