FDX - AA vs UAL
Hey guys,
I've been a loyal AA flyer for some time now, but will be switching to the tool box early next year. I'm wondering which airline is most beneficial for deadheads/deviating on the 777 schedule. I need to start working on getting UAL to status match if a switch is in my future.
On that note, I'm also looking for a new credit card that will be more widely accepted than my current Amex. No Foreign transaction fees would be a bonus.
Thanks,
GW

Citibank Hilton Honors Reserve Visa has no foreign transaction fees, comes with an EMV chip which allows you to use it in countries (mostly Europe) that require a chip, and it gives you Hilton Honors Gold status as long as you have the card.
I've been building miles on UA, but UA and AA are in a race to the bottom for reliability. Believe it or not, US actually provides good service and reliability. Right now, they are in the Star Alliance and miles on them roll into my UA account. IMO, alliances have become almost/more important than specific airlines. The Star Alliance has an advantage for international travel, but if AA buys US (or vice versa) I might switch from UA/Star Alliance to AA/One World.

This year my miles have been split between United and American. The DHs on Asiana will say "No Miles" but they will show up in you United account. I have had very few Delta opportunities. There has been a number of China somebody flights showing up lately, and I think they are a Delta partner.

This is a tough one. It really depends on where you live. I have been a 1K on UA for 7 years but after this merger UAdbaCO has sucked badly, but you have the advantage of Star over One World. UAs upgrades are harder to use than AAs as well. Also realize depending on what status you are that AA has less tiers making AA status more valuable. I matched my 1k status at AA to exec plat this year and have preferred AA domestically while UAs hard product is better internationally. I only did this since UA has screwed me many times this year. I agree on US. I'd also suggest going to tripmanager and checking the contract fares for the the destinations that you will be going to. That will make a big difference.
Also, if you dont mind paying a bunch for it the AAdvantage World MasterCard has the chip and no foreign transaction fees. It comes with Admirals Club membership which the only way I justified the price.

airbus - 21 out of approx 1000 pilots approx 2.1%
777 - 12 out of approx 600 pilots - approx 2%
MD-11 24 out of approx 1800 pilots - approx 1.3%
percentages don't lie, just the method for the application........

No harm here...but it is worth looking at the list once in a while. click on sort by aircraft type and count the numbers. However, this has nothing to do with this thread...I'm just sayin'...and you can't have .1 percentages as statistics with "average" numbers used against hard numbers. Either way, my point is validated.
