Every time I see a FDX guy wearing a pilot hat(other than on a picket line) or one of those sweaters with the shoulder boards...My first thought is, he's a dork.

Every time I run into a blocked calendar...my first thought is, that person is probably hiding behavior that they don't want their fellow pilots to see and/or they probably fit into one the above categories.

But, that's just the way I think. I can't help it. And I'll admit, I've been wrong quite a few times. At least on the hat and sweater guys.
Busboy,

I like the way you think.

Sorry, didn't know you had stopped wearing your stylish pilot hat, except of course for special occasions. Shade on the noggin is important.

Psychological projection or projection bias is a psychological defense mechanism where a person subconsciously denies his or her own attributes, thoughts, and emotions, which are then ascribed to the outside world, usually to other people. Thus, projection involves imagining or projecting the belief that others originate those feelings.

Projection reduces anxiety by allowing the expression of the unwanted unconscious impulses or desires without letting the conscious mind recognize them.

An example of this behavior might be blaming another for self failure. The mind may avoid the discomfort of consciously admitting personal faults by keeping those feelings unconscious, and by redirecting libidinal satisfaction by attaching, or "projecting," those same faults onto another person or object.

Some of us have devolved to the point where we feel the personal business of others belongs to everyone and we openly display bigotry based on how others dress or accessorize.

Your fascination with men's clothing says more about you than you will ever understand, and it speaks quite clearly.

Lastly, I have to chuckle at the notion of transparency and unions. Do you know exactly how the negotiations went down, the details of what was traded? Do you know who voted each way on each issue? Should we now demand the names and votes of each member?

I know exactly how the negotiations went down, it's called the CBA... Since you seem to love having references, here's one for you:

ab·nor·mal
Pronunciation: \(ˈ)ab-ˈnȯr-məl\
Function: adjective
: deviating from the normal, average, or expected <abnormal development> <results of the Pap smear were abnormal> <abnormal actions departing from accepted standards of social behavior>

Since the "average" FedEx pilot doesn't block their calendar or wear lanyards other than the standard issue ALPA one, commenting on their abnormal behavior is, well, normal.

Psychological projection - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Interesting. You must have submitted this very same definition to Wikipedia.

It is convenient to seperate people into groups based on a tiny badge, a lanyard(of all things), a bumper sticker or some garment.

It is convenient, but it is often incorrect. Talk and cheap little symbols mean little when you have manned the phones during a strike and hear the cries of those unprepared and broke because they lacked a spine but had the trinkets.

A common and accepted definition, seperated from my post. Thanks for being so careful to source it though.

If anyone wants to waste time on a minority, however tiny, they are not going to reach, be my guest-but it isn't likely they care.

Mike,

I didn't know that Fedex "issued" ALPA lanyards. Just so I understand you, if someone wears their college or military lanyard and not the ALPA one they are "abnormal" as indicated by their behavior? Maybe the pilot just has more love for his alma mater or the military branch he/she served in than his/her "agency shop" union. B**** please. You make me laugh.
