My point was:
The monetary value of a " cheap trinket" is small, by definition.
The symbolic value of a "cheap trinket" can only be measured by someone that knows what it stands for.
Obviously, Jungle and a minority of FDX pilots, have no idea.

You're looking at this from the wrong side of the coin. You should work on a better reason why you HAVE THE RIGHT to see another's schedule. Really. It's a privacy issue and guys like you are proving the point that maybe we should all block our calenders. What legitimate reason do you NEED to see someone else's schedule? So far all I'm getting is you are very nosy and maybe a little creepy.
What other airline allows crewmembers to analyze another's schedule preference? Can you see a Delta or United pilots schedule if you are fellow crewmember?
When I was at a pax airline flight attendants would bug me for getting CA or FO phone numbers. They had no access to it but I did.

Gunter, I can't speak for UAL, but at Delta, we can and do look at each other's schedules all the time. One thing that we also have, is when you do look at someone's schedule, your name and time of your viewing show up at the bottom of his schedule, so he knows you checked on him. That keeps it to a minimum, ie. if someone I don't know looks at my schedule, I'll look up their phone number and call them, and ask if there is something they want to know. Usually they want to swap trips with me on different days, and they are looking to see if I've got those days off.
Now, many years ago, we could block our schedules, and lots of guys did, with the most common excuse being the psycho ex wife/girlfriend stalker. BUT...during our 2000 contract negotiations, our union didn't want us picking up any extra flying, to put some pressure on the company. Lots of wh0res were picking up extra time...and blocking their schedules too....
ALSO...a few of our MEC members were pulling some stunts with their own schedules, ie. drop a 4 day trip (with full pay) for a 1 day ALPA meeting, then pick up another 4 day trip on a green slip the next day, getting paid for BOTH trips. Once word got around about some of the games being played, it was a pretty easy sell, to stop blocking scheds.
But our open time is not covered by 'first come first served', if a trip comes into open time, it's -supposed to- stay there until the next open time award run, which happens at 7am, noon, and 5pm. At those times, the open time is awarded -in seniority order- to those who have pickup requests in.
BUT...we also have a 'swap with friends' board, where you can post your trips to give away, or swap, with others...and that has been abused big time, with some guys hiding their trips on a buddies line, then picking up more trips from open time, to get way above our monthly max, which is usually around 85-92hrs.
They will 'park' one of their high time trips on their buddy's line to get down to 60-70hrs. pick up a 20-30 hr. trip, then -unpark- their old trip to add more time, well above our line limits. This allows the company to get by with much less reserve coverage, as all the open time is being picked up by trip parkers.
The way we can see this is by checking on each other's schedules, and we do, when we think there is something fishy going on. We self-police our schedules.
Lots of guys complained about it, just like schedule blocking, and now that's changing, so they cannot reclaim their trip if they do park it, it must go back to open time first, where more senior guys could snatch it.
So, while I do understand the "Privacy" arguement, we tried that, and it was being abused (guys were cheating the scheduling limits to pick up more time) so we got rid of the ability to block a schdule.
I don't know what the guys with the stalker ex-wives/girlfriends to keep them out. I never mind if someone checks my schedule, but then, I play by the rules so I've got nothing to hide, and oh, for 25 years now, I'm still married to wife number one.
So she wants me gone as much as possible!

Just trying to shed some light on the darkness that is schedule blocking.
I've got lots of Air Force buds at FDX, and I see your boys all over the world, hope to buy you a beer or three sometime, in PVG, DXB, HKG, NRT...or even in ATL, although I do try to avoid ATL at all cost!

While I appreciate how things are different at DAL, it is mostly apples vs. oranges.
At FDX the most senior in each airplane get carryover. 6 to 40+ hrs that extend into the next bid month without affecting next months award. So we have institutionalized a system where some get 115hrs in a month while others get about 72.
Even when we can see another Calender you can't see the pay code. Can't see if someone is on green slip.
Our 777 guys also get 5-10 hours extra pay after flying as scheduled. That's over and above their higher bid pack average. Usually about 9 hrs more.
Not complaining. We just have bigger issues than Calender games.
